Never mind. I can’t talk about Prince’s passing in this kind of detail then look at his beautiful eyes in a photo. Some things just have to be kept to ourselves.

age, people get tired. I feel it I know that. I've seen older people tell me "i'm ready Pete" meaning they're done. Most people just wait it out. And as far as addiction, that is self-destructive and slow suicide if you look at it like i do. Anything we do that works against life is suicidal and we all have habits. Mine is food.

I thought he had the hiv thing too because of the rumor and the secrecy, it looks like that wasn't the case. I think it was mulefunk who said though, that that "blind item" was seen by Prince the night before he died and "it was a factor in why we lost him" what the hell does that mean? I kind of had to stop ruminating over it and get my work done which means honoring him as a musician too, playing his music, practicing his music. which is on my mind as a struggle as a failed musician, "what would he say to me" he would no doubt say to "keep working".

[Edited 4/8/19 14:09pm]

I don’t consider Prince a drug addict. I think he became dependent on pain medication and that came with the usual side affects. I also don’t think he was just waiting to die. I think he couldn’t control what his body was doing (wearing out). As for what he would say about your music, we don’t know. He might say don’t give up, or he might say just play to enjoy playing.

you're right i don't know but usually, men of his calibre have kind words for the people who may try to come in their steps. Ali spoke in an encouraging tone when a journalist asked him about a theoretical heavyweight being better than him, "I wouldn't say it can't be done, he'll have to work real hard".

as I've said, i know nothing about drugs or alcohol, how many of us here have been hooked on opioids? How many of us know how hard it is to kick? i've heard it but I don't know.

It is very strange. I used to think Prince was suffering from HIV and that is why the police/estate/associates were acting so strange like they were trying to hide that from the public...im not so convinced of that anymore. All the clues seem to point to a suicide, which is very upsetting and heartbreaking yes but I just don't understand the estate' s reasoning of covering that up. I mean many, many great artists lead tortured inner lives and took their own lives. It didn't sully their art or work at all...their work is still loved and respected. Kurt Cobain committed suicide and people still love Nirvana ..unless their is an unseen dynamic at play , like a deeper stigma regarding suicide among the black community that I am overlooking. ....but what really still puzzles me is what was the trigger or catalyst for this decision, for him, ..it is such a mystery to me because that man has suffered enormous trauma and somehow he ALWAYS found the strength to keep going and keep creating and trying his best ...actually that was why he was my hero , because when I was going through hard times or upsetting things I really saw him as an example of fortitude and a pillar of strength. I mean honestly, many , many people who experienced that level of pain and trauma become, street people, he managed to lead such a successful life...he seemed to have so much fight and will inside of him ...what was different in 2016? Will probably never have a real awnser but I'm just throwing it out there in the universe. Sometimes we never get closure as unsettling as that is.
I think the self-detox messed with his mind those last 48 hours, and because that is so unbelievably painful and intolerable to both body and mind, he gave in and took a pill, not being able to stand the withdrawals anymore. Who knows how reasonable his mind was working.

He was also in opiate withdrawal that week and that can be very anxiety-producing.

A report said he was very irritable and anxious. Yes. He was trying to self-detox. He was not necessarily in his “right mind”.

I agree. For all we know on the 20th, P could have had a fuck it moment and then changed his mind after the fact and after it was too late. From 8:30 pm, April 20th, and on, we will never know Prince's mindset and what happened.

My sense is that while he was still taking opiates the week after Moline, it was at a much lower doses than what he was accustomed to. I come to this conclusion as he stated to Dr. S that he felt 'antsy' and was given meds for withdrawal...Kirk also mentioned he appeared to be in withdrawal.

P had to maintain this varying state of withdrawal for a week or so while in intense damage/image control. I think he was concerned about what would show on the blood test to be taken at DR. S. 4/20. ( wanted lowest possible opiate results and no Fent) Apparently, he had not slept during that week either.

Probably desperate for relief when he was dropped off after Dr S/blood tests

I agree, we will never know.

Also, it is very dangerous to go cold turkey while trying to detox.

Fucking impossible to kick (x10000 if you have a long time addiction like Prince did). The first few days after going without them will be the worst days of your life. You'll wish you could end it all...

A certain kind of mellow.

is that your personal experience or just what you heard? I've heard of people quitting and of course some people have to quit if they get locked up.

I over used for a few years after a back operation and was able to cold turkey it. My problem wasn't as serious as some, but those first few days after chronic overuse were terrible. I can definetly sympathize with Prince in that respect.

I agree. And for the record, I am not judging Prince. My heart goes out to him. In all honesty, there are days I struggle with pain and have thoughts. But we are all different and have different stories. I have a family. P did not. I can not imagine what was going thru his mind. I don't want to.

I don't judge prince either but I have to be honest, when i see all the junkie's in my city I can't help but think, "jesus, is this how hooked prince was" because it's a mess. People camping out in the open where they know they shouldn't be, beggars everywhere. I'll be honest in what I can't help thinking when i see these useless fucks, they are getting on everyone's nerves.

Their addiction is the same as Prince's was. That's what makes opioids such a threat - they know no class or social order.

I wanna see a book by Bobby Z honestly, it would be amazing to read about the really early stuff, like even pre-For You

that would be great, bobby is a smart guy, he knew the man before the rest of the revolution. Andre would be interesting too but he's always come across as a little immature to me so I don't know how much he could say about what went on and instead end up writing a book about himself.

he'd do good. honestly, many folks had so much great stuff to say, the list is endless, so i still say we need a as told to bio or a bio that lifts from all sources like the great elvis bios, we're a ways away from that.

Bobby would be great if he was the one that took care of Prince in his early career.

A very fair to all involved, very detailed biography like Peter Guralnick's Elvis books would be nice - long, detailed and written by someone without skin in the game but who isn't looking for a quick buck either. It's probably too early for that to happen though.

I hope Duana Tudahl gets to release some more books.

A book of essays by the likes of Greg Tate and Neil Kulkarni, both of whom by my reckoning wrote the best tribute pieces when Prince died, would be amazing too.

[Edited 4/2/19 12:37pm]

I agree with a very detailed biography written by someone without skin in the game.

Last year I read Reckless Daughter by David Yaffe.(Joni Mitchell). I could not put it down. It was thorough, scholarly, detailed and a Labor of Love. I have read Peter Guralnick's biographies and had to struggle with his style which felt too pedantic for me. But I do feel it is the definitive biography of Elvis.
