she said to the police that she was 50/50 on suicide, I used to think she may have been right. I'm still not sure but i don't think him being hooked is as far fetched as I once did. Some have said we were in denial with the drugs, it wasn't that, it was how I couldn't figure out how he functioned like that. I know nothing of opioids, some people say you can function fine being hooked on them, but just the other day I'm reading about the homeless explosion in seattle and opioids is the one culprit mentioned as being so crippling. I still don't know. I still agree with this. It’s called a half-hearted suicide attempt. When things seem so tough that although you don’t want to go, you do want to. [Edited 4/5/19 20:24pm]

I actually thought the aids theory may have been true because I never saw prince going out like that, never, i thought it was suicide for the longest time and still kinda do. Of course, as i've said from the start, the officials lie whenever they feel like it and in Prince's case, the real info is scant so any book written on the death is going to be more conjecture. It's still a mysterious death, I tend to vascillate between the different ways he could have died, the problem with the pills that he took was how would someone be so stupid as to take the same shit that almost killed him the week before? Was Prince that stupid? I even thought that he tried to kill himself then and maybe did it when he could get some space a few days later. Why? who knows. Judith did say he made cryptic remarks about his time being up and being depressed and reminiscing about the "good old days". Then, of course there was the fact that most addicts that far into their addictions cannot function and cannot hide it. As I said in either this or another thread, seattle has a huge homeless problem and opioids are given as the main cause, it's not a drug that helps most people function. I have heard that some people can function quite well on them, maybe prince was like that. I know nothing about real addiction, I never had a smoke, an illegal drug and i only drank when my crazy parents made me as a kid. i know nothing about addiction other than I hate it. No. He certainly wasn’t that stupid. [Edited 4/5/19 19:47pm]

Yeah, sure. Now I'm Judith Hill.
We all know how MJ died. Andrae Crouch had pneumonia that he was just getting over and suffered a heartattack. We all know how Prince died.

ya, that could have been it too, he was in tortuous pain and just needed relief. One of the first things I thought of when he died and pain/death were tied together, was a navy seal who had horrendous war injuries that he could have never lived with sober, that's a true catch 22, neither one is good, being in agony or being hooked. I'm not as puzzled by it as I was but I still wonder what actually happened, meanwhile life goes on.

we're at least ten years away from a book that would be thourough like The Elvis/Guralnick books and the Ali/Hauser book. the ali book was done in 91, I think, ten years after his career ended and the elvis books were done around 95 and 99. The great thing about both was that they compiled the impressions and recollections of a myriad of people around these men. That's what's needed, even moreso for a guy who supposedly had 6 different personalities.

See, I think he didn’t think he would maybe get old. Some said he wasn’t ever meant to. I also know certain people are afraid of getting old. They get depressed when it happens instead of accepting that we all get old. They pine for the old days. Prince perhaps felt this way and wasn’t talking with anyone his age who was wise and could say that to him unless he spoke with LG about it, that’s if he still put a lot of stock in what LG said. Plus he was facing the pain issues. Remember in that interview he said “That’s if I live to 60.” [Edited 4/8/19 8:06am]

i dont' think about it much these days but I'm still far from thinking it was simple or that we know the catalysts and inner working that led to the mans death. We were never given the info as fans to make a conclusion, at least not for me. I think it's highly improbably that Prince would mention his time being up and then almost dying and then dying a week later, I think that's strange. I don't think he meant to survive the first time. But I waiver with the rest of you guys and yes sometimes the "simple" conclusion that he was just so lost in addiction occurs to me to. I really don't care who's "right" I just wish we had a stable truth.

I really don't care who's "right" I just wish we had a stable truth. It is very strange. I used to think Prince was suffering from HIV and that is why the police/estate/associates were acting so strange like they were trying to hide that from the public...im not so convinced of that anymore. All the clues seem to point to a suicide, which is very upsetting and heartbreaking yes but I just don't understand the estate' s reasoning of covering that up. I mean many, many great artists lead tortured inner lives and took their own lives. It didn't sully their art or work at all...their work is still loved and respected. Kurt Cobain committed suicide and people still love Nirvana ..unless their is an unseen dynamic at play , like a deeper stigma regarding suicide among the black community that I am overlooking. ....but what really still puzzles me is what was the trigger or catalyst for this decision, for him, ..it is such a mystery to me because that man has suffered enormous trauma and somehow he ALWAYS found the strength to keep going and keep creating and trying his best ...actually that was why he was my hero , because when I was going through hard times or upsetting things I really saw him as an example of fortitude and a pillar of strength. I mean honestly, many , many people who experienced that level of pain and trauma become, street people, he managed to lead such a successful life...he seemed to have so much fight and will inside of him ...what was different in 2016? Will probably never have a real awnser but I'm just throwing it out there in the universe. Sometimes we never get closure as unsettling as that is.

age, people get tired. I feel it I know that. I've seen older people tell me "i'm ready Pete" meaning they're done. Most people just wait it out. And as far as addiction, that is self-destructive and slow suicide if you look at it like i do. Anything we do that works against life is suicidal and we all have habits. Mine is food. I thought he had the hiv thing too because of the rumor and the secrecy, it looks like that wasn't the case. I think it was mulefunk who said though, that that "blind item" was seen by Prince the night before he died and "it was a factor in why we lost him" what the hell does that mean? I kind of had to stop ruminating over it and get my work done which means honoring him as a musician too, playing his music, practicing his music. which is on my mind as a struggle as a failed musician, "what would he say to me" he would no doubt say to "keep working". [Edited 4/8/19 14:09pm] I don’t consider Prince a drug addict. I think he became dependent on pain medication and that came with the usual side affects. I also don’t think he was just waiting to die. I think he couldn’t control what his body was doing (wearing out). As for what he would say about your music, we don’t know. He might say don’t give up, or he might say just play to enjoy playing.

I think the self-detox messed with his mind those last 48 hours, and because that is so unbelievably painful and intolerable to both body and mind, he gave in and took a pill, not being able to stand the withdrawals anymore. Who knows how reasonable his mind was working.

And yes it is heartbreaking. Because he was such a good person. And because he died alone. Which must’ve been the way he wanted it because he didn’t want anyone around him he would hurt or burden. THAT is his true courage. And we mourn his loss because he was so caring and so unique and never complained about his life EVER, or put his shit out in public. That is also his true courage. To the end. He mature so much he only thought of others.

He had opioids in his system the day before, he never stopped taking them. My guess is the most opioid free his system seen in that last week was when he received 2 shots of Narcan. He had other drugs in his system the day before too, that weren't prescribed.
