A lot of House Music was influenced by P's unabashed display of sexuality, but to my knowledge I never heard him incorporate any house influences onto his 90s work (someone correct me if I am wrong). Some might disagree but I think most people would say P sorta stopped innovating around 96-97 and it just surprised me he didn't take the house sound/aesthetic (as well as IDM, Glitch and every other incredible new genre of electronic music that was sprouting up in the 90s) and run with it. What are everyone's thoughts why P never messed with house music?

From what I know he loved House music and you could tell from the many remixes that he liked that genre but I think that the potential was never fully utilized. Most of the really good House projects involving Prince happened without his knowledge or consent. There are many Prince song remixes or completely new songs using Prince samples in the House scene, and I really liked that House version of Extraloveable with that half naked lady in the shower but as far as official releases go there could have been so much more than just a couple of remixes or those couple of songs on Emancipation. The same goes for his attempts of incorporating rap into his music.

Apparently Prince had an entire acid house album sitting in the vault. Probably isn't terribly good, but who knows...

i imagine it would sound like a cross between "the human body" and "big house",
with a dash of "kamasutra" and "q in doubt" in there for good measure

"The Future" from Prince's multi platinum 1989 Batman soundtrack was house music at it's best. Even without a remix version.

IIRC The person who said this claimed it was from 88-89, around the time of Alphabet St. (This Is Not Music, This Is A Trip) which was of course heavily influenced by Mark Moore's S'Express

And even though at the time I really, really did not enjoy house music - I really, really want to hear this album.

What I know is that Fatboy Slim honored him with a 1999 drop during "Praise You". And he played a remix of I Would Die 4 U at Brighton Beach 2002. It's on youtube.

I always wanted Prince to release a house album but it never happened but I'm glad it exists in the vault. I'm not sure if we ever get to hear it, considering how bad the estate is handling things.

True...I have fingers crossed. I expect it's going to be awful but I would love to hear his interpretation.

Steve Huley did a remix of Getoff, Steve is a house music legend. The rap from Cindy C is from a House Music record called Music is the Key by JM Silk. Prince had a couple releases on Traxsource. If I remember correctly House mixes of Rock and Roll Love Afair and Dance 4 Me.

This again. As SOMEBODYSSOMEBODY noted Hurley did a Gett Off remix. William Orbit worked on the Batman remixes. The shelved acid house album. The original version of Rave Un2 was super housey. Loveleft, Loveright. My Name Is Prince is almost UK hardcore lite, IMO. There are scads of terrible Prince remixes from the 90s that tried to bring him to the dancefloor. Jason Nevins did a remix of Greatest Romance.

Hell yes Prince liked house music.

He had plenty of remixes with the word house in it......at the very least, he delved into it with remixes.

I think he possibly thought house music was below his capabilities as a musician to really invest much time and effort in it. I can't think of any decent house tunes produced by Prince. Oh wait, "The Future" is a great electronic song that could qualify as house/techno.

A great read in my opinion...

Gett Off to me, with its remixes, was the definitive great Prince as far as house music. I love all of those remixes. I, also, think the Future and the Future remix are good house songs, as are the Batdance remixes. I Wanna Melt with You...not so much, but then I do like Sleep Around and Loose.

There's a lot more house music that Prince did, than we thought!

Really odd that this ended-up on the Prince channel.

I remember that when the track was originally released, despite being an an album credited to Dale Bozzio, the individual was labeled as by "Prince" on iTunes, most likely to boost views and sales. I guess this is how it happened.

All great examples of how Prince didn't really do house/dance/EDM well. His strength is he always puts his own unique spin on things, his weakness is this can sometimes show his lack of knowledge on a genre. The stuff he was doing in the early/mid-90s sounded tacky and cheap. Like his only influences were 2Unlimited or Colour Me Badd 12" mixes.

You hear Prince as an influence on house/techno artists, but they're not referencing Child of The Sun or Loose. They're referencing Controversy and 1999 album tracks.
