What should Legacy reissue next?

I know we’ve only just gotten confirmation about the new Rave reissues but I’m hoping Legacy keep re-releasing albums in quick succession. Personally I’d love to see Chaos and Disorder/Emancipation or 20Ten. Or maybe even The Rainbow Children to cap off the 00s studio albums. My heart calls for The Gold Experience but with all this TMBGITW legal stuff going on I’m doubtful. Thoughts?

I'd like to get 20Ten on vinyl. It would be the album's first official release in the US!

So what's stopping you from buying it? Discogs, eBay, Amazon - what's the hold up?

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

Agreed. This purple vinyl stuff is stupid. It's a money grab. Purple Rain remaster was a let down since whatshisname flattened everything and took the dynamics out while cranking the volume. The bonus material was golden and worth the cost, though. In ratio, we've very little new stuff, except Piano and a Microphone, which was great but too short, IMO; and "Nothing Compares 2 U" 7" vinyl. Record Store day is impossible to even plan much less acquire. Those aren't even possibilities for 99% of the fanbase to get their hands on.

Stop with the purple vinyl and get to compiling stuff like the PR remaster. And keep Welton away from the remastering process. Someone call Bernie.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

Prince’s albums need to be reissued! Sony don’t have the rights to vault material until 2021. At least they’re doing something. Get all the reissuing out of the way first, then move on to the good stuff.

And it's half assed re releases TBH... They don't even include the booklets. It's a joke. They compile ULTIMATE RAVE but there is not one new or even any remixes added, once again no original booklets... It's really a travesty. All the potential for boxed sets, concert footage, a waste. Just a hodge podge of releases, from everything to the youtube account, to the new Prince instagram, to the merchandise... I wouldn't be surprised if the estate has a lot more serious major money problems in the next few years. They obviously don't know how to capitilize on his market. I bet the only real money they made was lisceninsing the music to the Capital One commercial and the Spike Lee Black KKKlansman film.

As would I! I really hope Warner’s get the 1988-1994 period out on vinyl before the end of the year. These albums were available for pre-order in late 2016 but then disappeared.

Then you know what, they shouldn't be re releasing anything until 2021 if they have no rights to the stuff that SHOULD BE ON A RE RELEASE.

How can you re release Musicology without even including one second of any concert footage from the biggest tour of 2004?? It's a joke really.

3121, can't even include any remixes, or footage from the film.

No wonder why people like ROD are bitching that these won't sell.

I haven't bought anything since PR DELUXE and I consider myself a "hardcore" fan.

But these re releases offer nothing, I don't want Planet Earth on vinyl. It's one of his most dull and bland and boring albums ever... If a PRINCE album is BORING... It's simply not a PRINCE album.

I'll wait till we get UNRELEASED tracks on proper deluxe editions.

These releases aren't for us, they are being done because you can't buy these things in physical format at the moment. Surely it's good and right that Prince's music is available on physical media for anyone that wants to buy it?

Of course I want all the vault music but there's no point getting upset about someone releasing reissues, especially when that someone doesn't even have the rights to the vault music in the first place.

RIP sad

If it's not for "us" who is it for? Because these sold nothing!! And I bet you the few thousand copies it did end up selling, was bought by "us".

I have to agree with you!

I was led to believe there was a mass army of new fans out there desperate to get hold of out-of-print music, but as it transpires, it's the fans re-buying these legacy releases.

Naturally, if the campaign does not sell then without doubt the legacy reissues will stop. After all, no shop will stock product if it is not selling.

Apparently, if it is to be believed, Ultimate Rave has been delayed because Musicology / 3121 / Planet Earth has not initially sold as expected.

You know since Musicology, 3121, Planet Earth didn't even crack the official charts... You know that means they sold no more than a thousand copies... So if it makes sub charts like top vinyl charts, it means at best it selling no more than a thousand copies to even determine a slot on those charts.

I bet you the Planet Earth re release didn't even sell 1,000 copies in the U.S.

What's Rave going to sell, tell me what other audience other than "us" knows what RAVE IN2 is? LOL

Stupid releases by the estate, real stupid.

There should be no re releases if they don't release any unseen footage or extras, and if they don't have access to these due to contractual issues, they should wait till they have access until 2021.

The best thing is WB to release deluxe editons with tracks from the vault. This is a waste of money and product for the estate. Why re release albums that the majority of the outside public have little interest in. These will not sell, and will probably not cover the cost of production, hence why they couldn't even print the booklets for Musicology and 3121.

its so tiring, complaints and more complaints: from (some of) U, all the socalled negativity.. here, sigh..

I like the trio LP's, just released on Purple vinyl.. move on guys, enjoy or, at least try.. wink

Ok no bonus tracks, I agree, it's not that impressive ok, but come on... if there were included bonus songs for these releases u would still complain about it: like it's the wrong songs, too few bonus songs = etc. etc. etc...

just face it u will never be satisfied anyway..

question

Sigh! Musicology + 3121 + Planet Earth on vinyl - finally - I like these.. even these are all mid-quality, not top quality albums, still very nice to finally have og "wax"!!

HIS MAJESTY's POP LIFE 2LP is coming like a re-release in Record Store Day in April, will some of U still be complaining about THIS news.. (I believe U will LOL... so incredible)..

lol or.... sad .... question

It's really hard to say as only post-Warners releases can be considered by Sony Legacy.

Xpectation and N.E.W.S would be nice as CD and vinyl sets, but I doubt anyone would buy them - other than me who buys everything smile

They would at least be vinyl premiers and the premier of Xpectation being released on CD.

The Chocolate Invasion and The Slaughterhouse would be the next obvious paring with this being the first time released on CD and vinyl - but I see them as mere compilations and not albums.

20Ten would have to be a standalone release which would be quite boring, but as we know, Sony can't release previously unreleased content so it will be hard to make this exciting for anyone.

Lastly HitnRun 1 and 2 would be nice to re-issued on vinyl but they do seen rather too new to be re-issued.

So there isn't much Song Legacy can do, so it hardly seems like such a great deal really!

If we're stuck post 1996 material then Chocolate Invasion and Slaughterhouse.

And a ridiculously massive Emancipation vinyl release complete with the 1996 artwork blown up to 12" size lol

I know record sales have hit the bottom and I'm not sure which charts exactly you're talking about, but how can any record reach the charts at 1000 copies? eek

Do you mean charts as in "Top 200"? Because that would sound more like "Top 5000" to me eek

I doubt the Legacy deal includes the non-Prince Estate-owned Paisley Park catalogue. But you can get it for a dollar on eBay https://www.ebay.com/itm/...ctupt=true

Do we know if booklets were made for TT, TS, TCI, Xpectation and C-Note?

We know there's a cover and a CD-design for each, but I've never heard of anything else (not counting the one page for TT on CB). TS, TCI and C-Note I suspect ther's no such thing because the only time they were planned for physical release was the TCI boxset, which probably had a collective booklet for all the records. TT and Xpectation I'm not sure whether a standalone physical release was ever planned before they ended-up on CB and NPGMC respectively.
