I have read Come as Prince's last masterpeice and also a peice of crap. I was curious as to what the org members think about this and what songs are tops and what are shit?

For me, the title and the album cover kind of says it all.
As far as I'm aware, all the tracks on Come had been pulled from the Vault, and given a quick once-over.
And, for me, it shows.
There are some brilliant parts on it...'Come', the almost-rapping on 'Space', and Letitgo.Apart from that, IMHO, it's nothing more than a throw-away.

I totally disagree with Bump. This is one of the better of all the 90s albums. The thing is very funky...kinda in the same vein as The Black Album. It's definitely in the top 5 of his 90s output.

For me the come album is one of the best 90's albums. it is dark and funky and holds together well as a whole. also it ight be thelast prince album to really showcase the sexual side of his music. Peace all

Most of the tracks on Come were fairly new
(recorded early 1993) and were actually
originally attributed to rather than
Prince. A lot of it was recorded around the
same time as tracks for The Gold Experience.

The tracks on Come tend to be the ones that
Prince had recorded solo, whereas the tracks
on The Gold Experience were mostly recorded
with The NPG.

On the earlier incarnations of Come and The
Gold Experience, songs swapped quite freely
between albums, and there were rumors of
them all being collected onto one double or
triple album (possibly titled 'The Dawn')

Most of the tracks on Come were first aired
officially as part of the Glam Slam Ulysses
show. Then later on The Beautiful Experience
TV special (along with tracks that ended up
on The Gold Experience and Crystal Ball).

I love Come. I think it's a 4 star effort.

Come did suffer a bit from the fall out between Prince
and Warners. It's pretty certain that if things had
been OK between P & WB, Come would've been a different
album (or not existed at all, if it had been compiled
with the Gold Experience tracks)

Prince himself considered it 'contract filler', along
with Chaos And Disorder and The Vault..Old Friends 4
Sale. Though there is a difference in that the 'Come'
tracks would've certainly still been released in
some form anyway.

It's so obvious that those songs were recorded
at the same time period. And most everyone knows
that a lot of them swapped to and fro from Come
to Gold [and the other incarnations which we
don't know much or anything about].

I've always loved come. If "Dolphin" weren't on
the Gold Experience, but on "Come", than it would
surely be my fav 90's album up to "The Truth".

"The Gold Experience" is a bit to exhuberant for
me. At least, in some parts. Come is so much more
laid back and darker and desolate.

The only thing I don't really like about it is, as
someone else said before on this thread: Race. It
was way cooler in the beginning when it was being
played on the radio here in Holland. It sounded a
bit more 20's style and the outro was too funky.
It suffered a bit from being remixed before it was
eventually released [as did several songs on come
and gold].

Anywho, this makes me wanna cut n paste again, in
search of my own personal, ultimate 2cd 93.94 album.

It took me a while to actually start liking 'Come'

Loose, Papa and Race are a formidable three in a row.

'Come' didn't really do it for me.When I listen to it,it all sounds rather sad,like the thrill is gone.I read a review where the critic wrote "Prince sounds bored on some tracks" and I agree.It's not nearly as exciting and inspired as what came before it ('Love Symbol') or what came after it ('The Gold Experience').It's just a weird little Prince album to me.There are a few cool songs but nothing really outstanding.


I don't think that Prince thought much of this album.By the time it was released,he was feuding with Warners and was more focused on his next record AND getting out of his recording contract.
