The Superfly album is a stone cold classic like Purple Rain.

The poster (Darshy) said that the soundtrack was way more dynamic and exhilirating. What is IMPLIED is that the poster is giving their own opinion. Reading between the lines is a more developed skill than your ability to read what is on the page (wonderful achievement they should build a statue to you at a pigeon colony). So in fact you have shown a lack of ability to read shades of meaning.

I got that you were attempting a joke, and your sniping vainglorious comment was your attempt to defend a weak joke. Really is it worth being so mean to defend something that is A) a tawdry joke that pretends to misunderstand the poster was giving an opinion. B) Adds nothing to the conversation, C) Makes people less likely to post in the future (toxic behavior).

The fact one person thought different did not invalidate the posters opinion. You forget where you are posting sometimes, as this is the Prince.org and is not your personal dumping ground. Until you do anything of note where you could generate a fansite, perhaps reconsider intermittently shitting on people in the most simplistic manner. People are all different kinds of the same you don't have a monopoly on intellect or taste, so why not turn over a new leaf. No problem, I tire of people who don't allow you to have an opinion, feel they automatically have the higher ground on any discussion, and are free to question your knowledge and intelligence at the drop of a mood swing. We need to let people share opinions, and even dare I say ask questions that have been asked or can be easily googled (I am happy for example to revisit my configuration of a single disc Emancipation or ignore the thread as is my want.)

It's all subjective.

I don't agree that 'Purple Rain' was Prince 'at his prime'. For me, that is 'Sign 'O' Times' along with some of his later work. 'Purple Rain' is exceptional, but the focus on that one album and its success is as damaging to Prince's legacy as it is beneficial. And I don't feel its contents are that representative of Prince's career as a whole - rather it is a singular galvanising moment.

I agree,the Superfly soundtrack is incredible.One of my absolute favorites

but where the heck is Saturday Night Fever?! I can't believe that they excluded it from this list.

Maybe because journos keep writing about him as "the Purple Rain singer", the new reissues are on purple vinyl... Whenever it's about Prince, it's always purple this, purple that...

Prince adopted Purple as his color before Purple Rain with 1999, and kept using it. I think it's fair...

That’s an extremely eclectic list. Those top two could be flip flopped or not, both are fantastic. I would’ve put Singles higher because it did a great job of documenting an important musical movement. For me, Boomerang should be in the top 10, maybe top 5. That had so many great songs. End of the Road, Hot Sex on a Platter, Feels Like Heaven, Love Shoulda Brought You Home, etc. Just great stuff.

Of course it should be #1. But then again I don’t really think of it as a soundtrack even though technically it is.
