WB really should petition the RIAA to recertify Purple Rain. It still stands at 13x Platinum in USA, the last time it was recertified was 1996.

It should be over 16 million in the U.S. by now if not more, that would make it one of the Top 15 selling albums of all time in the U.S.

MJ's albums always seek recertification, most recently BAD was certified 10x Platinum in USA.

I already posted that information Feeluup...
.
Sadly, Prince is not in the top 10 of the best selling act in this format.
.
The last one is Queen with 210.000 vinyls sold in the US, meaning Prince sold less that amount

If WB/ the estate want to increase their sales, they should have done a greatest hits holding only one vinyl to sell it at a low Price.
.
Something like a #1 compilation with only 10 tracks, the essential that most casual consumer wants to listen to such as :
.
Side A :
When doves Cry
Raspberry Beret
Cream
Nothing Compares 2U (the demo released last year)
TMBGITW
.
Side B:
Kiss
1999
Little red corvette
Batdance
Purple Rain

From the same Billboard article:

"Nothing Compares 2 U" was the No. 2-biggest-selling vinyl single of 2018 with 9000 sold.

They could have sold more if it wasn't just stupidly the same song on each side!
Moonbeam Levels onthe B side would have been great
.
Interestingly, Purple Rain vinyl sold "only" 58.000 copies in 2017. It was then already in the top 10 too.
.
1999 sold at least 5300 copies this year during the record day

According to Billboard Purple Rain U.S. sales for 2016 was 487,000 sold.

Add the world wide sales, the sales for the Purple Rain reissue in 2017, the sales from the vinyl figures for 2018... Purple Rain needs to be recertified, it is way passed the 13x Platinum mark in USA.

Yeah, that'd have made sense.

I'm still wishing for a 12" with both versions of Possessed on it.

And a RSD release of Camille, since it's mostly released stuff anyway.

one can dream.

I find it funny that the soundtrack to the first Guardians of the Galaxy movie, by far the most recent release on the list is at #1 although it's just a collection of songs from the 70's.

To be fair though, these are just vinyl sales. The only people buying that format are hardcore music lovers, old people and old souls. Let's see where these stand on a physical and digital level VS the "hottest" releases today.
