i like it too but the mock Prince funeral is hard to watch, for me. Even though it depicts saying goodbye to the "old" Prince, i dunno, maybe im waay too sensitive still. mad

I've always liked the cheekiness of it I guess. I also love the car horn synths.

Yeah, it’s kind of all over the place with the sound effects and all, but clever? I dunno about “shit”🕺🏼

You mean, watching the video after his death? Yes, a bit, but at the time in 1996, Prince was only happy and secure enough to make fun of his own image.

I always thought with a guitar lick instead of that keyboard fill after "FACE DOWN!", it could've been a hit like Gett Off. It just needs a tad more oomph.

No way. It's a nice video but the music is better.

A couple of points :

  • Notice the convertible BMW? He probably liked the beemers. wink
  • He pretends to play the violin and the saxophone or does he really? eek
  • He's talking about wills and caskets, in reality he didn't care for any of them.

Man... that song was probably the highlight of the JAM OF THE YEAR tour. Just a ridiculous funk workout.

And the video is Prince showing his silly side... not a good video but makes me smile.

Please, rd - don't hurt 'im. lol

Good point. Now you said it, with a guitar instead, it s obvious the melody sounds like Gett Off, but simpler.

Good point! A guitar would really improve it. I can almost hear it already!

yes

It's one of his best videos. With "The Same December", it is the definitive proof that out of
the Holy Trinity of the eighties pop stars, Prince was the only one able to keep a sane mind,
a distance from his own situation, while accurately describing the difficulties of
keeping an artistic integrity when you're entangled with a heavy stardom past,
ownership contracts troubles and paychecks to keep rolling.

I can't get enough of the shrink's couch takes,
not to mention "orchestra!" and the deranged fiddler.
Above the many things that sets Prince apart,
we should mention the balls to come out with singles
only a long-time fan can appreciate.
To a noobie, this song doesn't make any sense at all.

As for the music, just when you think the studio version
can't give you more of a funk face, leave it to Prince
to distort your delicate features even further.

Oh yeah, another great take on the song, love this performance too. I'd be hard-pressed not to be thrilled with any performance of this song, I've always been taken with it lol

Interesting that it was about Jon Bream. I had no idea until Morris told us.

Not at all. The only sadness I feel is for the dolts out there who believe that Prince wrote this song to let only the smartest fans know he was gonna die and that WB would have something to do with it. I'm not sure if that is stupidity or mental illness, TBH. You know those fools are out there (on here). The song is great. I wish the instruments were different, but what can you do?
