Saying that you've read three books about Prince and are unsure if you want to read more is not stupid. . Oh look, making shit up instead of looking at what was actually said. Here, lemme help you by quoting the offending bit: .

. Again: she's read THREE FUCKING BOOKS. Yet somehow she has an opinion on ALL books. I understand that whatever mental condition you have prevents you from understanding anything other than what is explicitly stated, so allow me to spell it out for you. Firstly though, it was my own error in saying I've read 3. I've actually read 4 Prince biographies. But that's neither here nor there and doesn't change the point I was making. In fact, it reinforces the point I was making. Because each of the Prince books I read have all featured the same information. Naturally, they WOULD all feature the same information, given that they are all biographies of the same person. So, given that I have read 4 books, all with the same information, I can assume that any other Prince biography is also going to feature the same bullshit. They might have one or two new anecdotes but to me, any small amount of new information is not worth the asking price of buying a new book. Now, perhaps that makes me "not a real fan" in your eyes but if being a "real fan" means buying anything and everything with a Symbol on it, then I'm happy to not be what you consider a real fan. I love Prince's music (well, most of it) and I am somewhat interested in finding out the story behind the music, but I personally feel that reading 3 (or 4, as the case may be) books is enough. More than enough, in fact. So now can you get it through your thick skull why I don't get excited about yet ANOTHER Prince book released into what is already an overcrowded market?

Firstly though, it was my own error in saying I've read 3. I've actually read 4 Prince biographies. But that's neither here nor there and doesn't change the point I was making. In fact, it reinforces the point I was making. Because each of the Prince books I read have all featured the same information. . Either you read some bad books, or you're wrong. . Naturally, they WOULD all feature the same information, given that they are all biographies of the same person. So, given that I have read 4 books, all with the same information, I can assume that any other Prince biography is also going to feature the same bullshit. . Yeah sure, because a book that focuses on his bond with Japan (the actual subject of this thread) will undoubtedly feature the same information as for instance Duane Tudahl's book on Prince's studio work during the Purple Rain era. Or Jim Walsh's Gold Experience: Following Prince in the '90s. Or Alex Hahn and Laura Tiebert's The Rise of Prince 1958-1988. Oh look, four random books and they barely have any overlap and feature completely different approaches. . They might have one or two new anecdotes but to me, any small amount of new information is not worth the asking price of buying a new book. . You could read reviews here and on the likes of Goodreads etc. before buying. But I guess it's easier to "read" four books and then declare that all books about Prince "say the same things". Yup, Per Nilsen's Dance, Music, Sex, Romance: Prince: The First Decade says the same things as The Vault: the definitive guide to the musical world of Prince. Or Edgar Kruize's The Dutch Experience. . Now, perhaps that makes me "not a real fan" in your eyes . Oh look, making shit up. Nice strawman you got there. . I personally feel that reading 3 (or 4, as the case may be) books is enough. More than enough, in fact. So now can you get it through your thick skull why I don't get excited about yet ANOTHER Prince book released into what is already an overcrowded market? . Answer me one simple question: go through all books on this list -- http://www.princevault.co...bliography -- and tell me which one covers the same subject as the one announced at the top of this thread? © Bart Van Hemelen

(Another soon deleted thread.) Sorry, unfortunately there won't be any more drama here. At least not from my end. I have better things to do with my time than to explain myself to a moron who claims to not even be a Prince fan and yet spends an extraordinary amount of time chastising actual Prince fans for not being big enough fans. And if he's going to come on and accuse me of "making shit up" like he does with everyone who points out his bullshit, then take a look at his profile. It says he's "not a fan". Then go to the thread on that "new" Prince song that showed up on YouTube by a female singer. I can't remember her name or the songs name but I think the thread is a sticky. On that thread, old Bart comes on to complain about the lack of comments from orgers and wonders what kind of fans we are that there's not more comments on it. The irony of a man(?) who claims not to be a Prince fan but then whines like a bitch about other people not being a "real fan".

Agreed. I just wonder how the estate will ever get it together enough to agree on how/when to put this out. The clock ticks, as those of us who can remember back to the 80's get older. Hope I can still see to read when this comes out, LOL. (really, not funny in a purple kind of way)

if only they would release music as fast as these books....

Yeah, that would be good too. What's up on this topic; everyone must have run out of chocolate candy or something over the holidays and gotten in a bad mood. Come on over to our house and get you some, we are sick of it!

Will buy, the Japanese usually are very respectful and succinct, as well as cute and funny in a Hello Kitty kind of way. This will be a delightful book.

Never mind, looked it up myself. I guess it is Dutch for "Culture barbarians", and yes I would agree with that assesment here at times!

I do not like the cover - it looks like it was left out in the sun & it faded & it was also used as a coaster for drinks a few times. Too harsh?

On the subject of Prince in Japan, how great is the 1989 Nagoya show? The “banzai!” battle cry at the beginning of Murph Drag cracks me up every time. Funky as hell. [Edited 1/17/19 1:28am]

I bought a different Japanese Prince book when I was in Tokyo last year. I can't read any of it, but the pictures are great!
