That happens with streaming... FREQUENTLY.

Buy physical copies or downloads you can back up if you don't like it.

Or, bitch every time this happens. Whatevs...

i've been on spotify premium for about 3 years now and that's literally never happened to me.

and i play 90% of my music at home from spotify now, eventho i have almost my entire music
collection on my harddrive and on back ups. it's just easy and most things are on spotify, that
i have in my library. except for prince bootlegs and the odd really weird release.

the only time an album or a song has gone missing or hasn't been available for a while is with
the prince catalogue. but that's more to do with prince and now the estate than the services,
at least that's my guess since i never have that problem with any other artist.

It's true, it rarely happens and when it does it's interesting because it's usually a sign that something is going on with the rights of a catalogue.

Also, it's fucked up some of my playlists AND I WON'T HAVE IT.

I've never used a streaming service but I've seen people come here complaining about music being removed from this or that service MANY times. That's why we have comments like "not this conversation again".

And if you use Netflix, it happens several times a year. Licenses come and go.

It rarely happens to anyone who is not Prince, and since Prince died it has rarely happened to his stuff, just a bit of hiccupping around royalties at first, thought they had it sorted. Guess not/

Judging by the frequency of threads just like this one, this is not rare at all.

It is rare for anyone who is not Prince and increasingly rare for Prince since he passed.

Please note that Spotify is not Tidal, Tidal is an outlier in the streaming world, there's basically all other streaming services and then there's Tidal.

When stuff does get removed from non-Tidal streaming it's usually a sign of something else going on like a remaster or a re-release or change in record labels so it's worth commenting on.

Since I've never used a streaming service, I can't argue my own anecdotes against yours. However I can say with certainty that threads like this, where people bitch about music missing or removed from streaming services, are absolutely NOT rare at all. If it RARELY happens it's strange that people REGULARLY complain about it.

9/10 of those threads are about Madhouse and the Family and the like albums that should not have been there in the first place. They go up and down depending on how quickly they're caught. But yeah, you're correct, lots of threads.

Moving on, for everyone else:

So around October the two HitnRun albums, Judith Hill and Andy Allo album were all put on streaming services at the same time IIRC. Now one of the HitnRun albums has been removed, which suggests something is going on. It might be nothing, it might be something, anyone know what gives?

No, 90% of those threads are not about the bootlegs. Way more than 10% have been about the main catalogue. But whatevs, if you want to "move on", feel free.

Read better.

I've been talking consistently about "streaming services" now you want to lock me down to just "Spotify"? lol

Find them yourself, or, stick to your guns and "move on". kiss2

savagedreams

this is why you should actually buy and own product, not stream. streaming rights come and go all the time for sometimes good reasons, weird reasons, or no reason at all. no where does any streaming service guarantee that the content available today will be there tomnorrow.

Very true, I was using Spotify as shorthand, I meant all the major streaming services with modern deals with the catalog, i.e. not Tidal.

Is it still on apple music/google music/amazon? Anyone know?

I thought that 'Superconductor' had been available for download and streaming on Amazon since it's release in November 2012. I believe that Andy announced back in the summer that the album was finally available on Spotify. I don't think the Estate has sole control over the album so not sure if that was her doing or theirs or what it may mean for future releases of Prince albums.
