I do favor that one more. It's rawer and more honest. The production from March 1984 seems overblown. It was never a Revolution-era take, yet them playing on it in the March 1984 version feels different. The 1981 take in his home studio is pure Prince. Real, genuine, and blooming.

I ain't even going to mention the Kirky J. version that was left out of The Purple Medley.

That paul guy insists 100% the Revolution are NOT playing on the 84 version.

Paul was a shill, and he knew we all knew it. He was virtually banished from alt.music.prince in 2001 for that situation.

Don't even get me started on the Tokyo version... woof.

Don’t forget that divinity6 wrote an extra verse and offered it to Prince at a sound check, but he refused. May we finally hear her version which surely completes the song! It might be the only thing Kellyanne McClure likes!

Paul has changed his way and now states categorically that the Rev played on every Prince song of quality. Including HH. That's why Trivial is wrong. No solo version of a Prince song can be better than a take by The Revolution. (By playing I obviously include everything from actually playing on the song, to once having played the song in a rehearsal, to sitting in LA and influencing Prince by sending happy thoughts while Prince is working in the studio in Minneapolis).
I think it's fair to say that by '84 HH was in ever sense not only influenced, but also written by Wendy&Lisa. Hence it's legendary status.
