Thoughts on the song Beautiful Strange I saw this was voted one of the highest rated Prince songs of the 90s according to the Peach & Black podcast.... am I the only one who doesn't get what's so special about this track?

It's not one that I listen to often but I love his live performances of it. I especially liked the one at The Dakota Jazz Club in 2013.

Sounds like Prince doing Soundgarden at their most trippy or early Funkadelic with less drugs and more money, both good things by my reckoning. Maybe you have to be a fan of spaced out guitar grooves though. [Edited 11/17/18 9:44am]

It's a slow, psychedelic burn with a great guitar solo reminiscent of "the Rapture" on the Scandalous Sex Suite. Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

Can’t put my finger on it to be honest but I think that it’s strangely beautiful. If the milk turns out to be sour, I aint the kinda pussy to drink it!

this song! I'm bumpin the released version right now 2 get reacquainted (I think I've listened 2 it twice). I always go to the "Mel B" (can I walk u 2 your car? hehehe ) version when I wanna hear it, more bare bones, etc. Don't know what it's about per se, but damn if he don't sell it, especially after the last chorus (Beautiful Strange!!!! ) .... For all time I am with you, you are with me.

Same here! The Rave version of it is one of the few tracks where I don't like his guitar playing (the distorted guitar that he put over it). The "naked" version has so much more atmosphere imo. Dig both versions. I love the way he sings on this song and the lyrics are really something. I never realized the song was about Jesus until someone from the Org mentioned it. Prince FOREVER! klick

I love it. Really dig when Prince sings in this range too.

Prefer the Beautiful Strange video version but never been a lover of it or understood the high praise it receives

The song was such a breath of fresh air, relative to the other stuff he put out at the time (Rave album, for instance). The sensation of "see, he *is* the greatest" coming back may have had some people praise the song too much. . As it is, I think it's a great track. Especially the earlier version. It's one of the tracks like Joy In Repetition, atmospheric, storytelling and simply great. It rightfully should be in his highest rated tracks. Paisley Park is in your heart - Love Is Here!

One of my favorites. Strangely beautiful Beautiful strange That's what we said Instead of the name If U count the times He took all the blame U would find the reason Behind the game Beautiful strange In the darkness We must look 4 the way Words so strange That only the mind can say If it makes no mind What color or holy day Why is this game The only one that we play Beautiful strange Dive inside your soul if U wanna know The light inside the darkness 4ever glows The son is like the diamond inside the coal And like an embryo it grows and grows Time keeps on slipping into the future...
This moment is all there is...

I've always loved this track. Prince's music was slightly underground and progressive during this era. This track personifies that perfectly 😎✌❤

Beautiful Strange is amazeballs. And he always killed it live. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

Stunning...Prince in trippy , other worldly mode. Note that Mike Scott played a lot of guitar on this track I think?

Love the song. I always thought it was just "Joy in Repetition" tweeked a bit. (JIR is my favorite song on GB btw) 99.9% of everything I say is strictly for my own entertainment

Actually a song I haven't given much time to, but the video version is great. Album version is a bit over produced.
