I know Dez wrote it but I would kill for a Prince lead vocal track of this!!!

After Hi School.

Super underrated tune, in my opinion.

I love that you mentioned this track because I was listening to it earlier today!! Of all the songs.

Prince's vocal would have been incredible to have on this. I hold out that there's also his lead vocals somewhere in the vault for COOL. If it's anything like him doing it live it would be something.

The song doesn't really work for me, much like Gotta Stop, which I feel is similar. Regardless, listening to Gotta Stop would be one way to imagine what it would be like.

.

At the same time, I do hope that all the associates albums will be released with a remaster and an extra disc with Prince's versions of those songs. It'd be amazing to be able to a-b them and to hear different takes on the songs we all love (or tolerate razz )

.

Not sure that's ever going to happen though. The most amazing album possible from the estate, to me, would be an album with all the separate tracks he gave to others to release. So Strong, Baby Go-Go, Sugar Walls, The Sex Of It, etc.. it'd be such a treat! (I know quite a few of the songs are already circulating)

That would be a smart project, I mean both your suggestions.

.

The side-projects + Prince vocals would mean a collab between WB and the estate for a good number of them, where masters of the original releases are still WB property slavery. But the Prince vocals would immediately boost any rerelease of those records.

.

As for the compilation of random tracks given to others it could also pose some problems with the labels owning the originals in the cases the original Prince music was used. But to my surprise, WB got away with doing it with TDE on PR Deluxe, so it's possible there's a legal loophole they can use. It would be a lovely idea to regroup the songs that way, like a "Prince songbook".

.That's my thinking. It would (or should) sell a multiple of the re-released associate albums when done as they were. And without a collaboration between WB and the estate (which means Sony now also for older stuff?) there won't be many outtakes or extra tracks available to add to an associate re-release. There's a market for them, but with this addition it might actually be (at least somewhat) lucrative.

I wonder if that is the reason for the strange version of TDE. The "expected" version would be partially the same as the CBS/Sony released version (and much the same as the instrumental extended version found on the Solid Records expanded re...e AC album).

So yeah, licensing could be a bear for the Prince Songbook. We need a Duane Tudahl type dedicated to this! cool

No, this can't be the reason. The reason is they were sloppy. IDK anymore if licensing is required but in theory it should.
