An Honest Man I wish that fast-tempo 1986 band rehearsal of An Honest Man was out there in better quality. But I still love it lots. I just hope that there is a fast-tempo studio version as well, so they can include it on the Parade Deluxe. >>

Yes, the piano version in Under the Cherry Moon I absolutely adore

Co-sign that one. I'd love for it to be on the Parade remaster/deluxe when/if that happens, but won't count on it being included.

early 90's I got a tape with a soundboard European Nude Tour show and was completely caught off guard when I heard him play An Honest Man during the piano segment of that show. That was so awesome, But my favorit is the one from the movie with the strings and I hoped that would be on Crystal Ball when I saw it on the tracklist.

This - yes. I was never so disappointed upon hearing the version on that album.

It's the gem. I think one thing we can all, for once, agree on, is that any Parade reissue or Parade-era outtakes collection must include it. A COMPREHENSIVE PRINCE DISCOGRAPHY (work in progress ^^): https://sites.google.com/...scography/

My favorite version is the one he plays in the movie. " I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! I´m always funny dude...I´m hilarious! Are we gonna smoke?"

I have that piece as an mp3 from the movie I love it . I'll be honest, lol uh I think Prince's need to prove he was still funky during the Parade tour caused him to miss out a LOT of opportunities to showcase the higher level of quality of music and vision that is actually heard during the 1984-1986 transition . I would have had him hire some of Clare Fischers musicians and/or David Coleman Novi Novog and Suzi Katayama for the live shows . I enjoyed Gregory and Wally, but I would have exchanged that space for extra musicians, Jerome of course could have stayed. And I would have talked Eddie M into staying. . This would have been a step in the direction of the Flesh/Dream Factory/Camille era if he did not break up the Revolution. . I would have had the core Revolution + Eddie Eric Atlanta + string section:David Suzi Novi + choir Susannah Jill Jerome(Cat added in 1987) + percussions: Sheila E, Jonathon, Juan

Yes, he really went for the "funk" party on the tour instead of focusing on the music from the album. He also played many of his older hits. * No doubt that the film flopping, the critics writing that he had moved away from his black audience and funk roots, and the personal tensions within the band all factored in to him doing a 180 and completely changing the band after the short Parade tour.

Even during the 1985 ATWIAD period, I didn't need him to do another tour, but to do shows like the Dance Benefit show or the Birthday show around music from the ATWIAD album and songs that flowed with a show.

Yes, that would have been nice, but this was the era of big arena concerts - not smaller shows, and Prince was still selling out the larger arenas. He was still deep into the "pop chart" success. Sadly, these beautiful songs were relegated to snippets during his piano sets on the LoveSexy and Nude tours

but I mean he did not tour for ATWIAD. the only performances after the PR tour were the 1985 Masquerade Ball/Birthday show and the November Nice France mini concert
and a 7th Avenue Entry show in July -Girls & Boys & Hollyrock previewed
I know it was a short period and too short to tour, but to do some random performances at First Avenue and a few other spots. Just to render the ATWIAD music live

Yes, that's true. I guess he was too busy planning for Parade and UTCM?? Since he wrapped up PR tour April '85, and was about to release The Family and Sheila E's albums - maybe just too busy?

I think if he took some time planning for UTCM and not rushed it, 85-86 would have looked differently.
I wish he would have brought the Family band over to France and had them doing shows, since he pulled Susannah and Jerome over there most of the time. It would have worked.

Agreed. Europe would have loved The Family. They could have opened for Prince on the tour.

I think they did a couple during the Purple Rain era
I know there was one in Oct 1984 after a Sheila E concert

LOL paulludvig would enjoy anything that didn't include Wendy and Lisa. Only problem with that would have been that W & L - and their Brothers were a HUGE part of ATWIAD - in fact, the other members had very little to do with that album. So, while the trio of Prince, Bobby and Mark would be great, the songs from ATWIAD would not have sounded right at all. They needed Wendy's guitar chords and Lisa's beautiful keys.

weeaallll I'm trying to keep the thread from going back there again lol don't want to have to go on another snip run . I just used the Prince Bobby Z and BrownMark example because it was something that happened before. And an example of other variations. I would also have love Prince & Lisa together on a small show with piano keyboards synth / guitar (I believe Lisa played another instrument) and even maybe add David Coleman . I always imaged an ATWIAD mini show with Prince Bobby Z and BrownMark doing Tamborine, Erotic City, Old Friends 4 Sale, God(the love theme) etc

Yes, those songs would work with the trio. Just not the title track, PP, COTH, Pop Life, or Raspberry Beret, or America...AKA most of the album * Yes, a Prince/Lisa combo along with her Brother would have been beautiful too.

The version in UTCM.I fell in love with it when I first got the movie and would often put it on just to hear it. I was pleasantly surprised to see when watching a clip of The Beautiful Ones from Sydney 2012 that he started with a bit of 'An Honest Man' at the piano. I wish he had played it for the P&M shows.

yeah I know, I was just talking about the 1985 period of doing some stuff. There isn't much activity during that time period as far as shows that the public know of. But as musicians they could work out arrangements on any of those songs. Sheila E did Pop LIfe with block of drumming wood and her keyboardists doing the synth sounds. And Prince & the Revolution did Raspberry Beret on the PR tour with just piano and guitar. Songs can be arranged.

I would have loved a full orchestra like performance of it instead of only a piano as we only received.
