Not really, because I understand that people have different reasons for choosing the era they like bes. For me, I am always interested in who people become; not who they were. So I like his last 3 albums. I am not attached to the past. I do enjoy his musicianship during any era, but the end is what I favor.

My favorite era was based on when I got to the party. I was a huge fan in the 80s and was lucky enough to experience his output in real time and his songs mean a lot to me and bring back many incredible memories of the time, the place and my friends from that period. There were many nights sitting on the beanbag chair with headphones listening to the album, the b-sides and any tapes I had of those shows and it became part of my DNA.
Conversely, there are periods in my life that I was too busy to get some beanbag chair time and so I missed the boat for certain releases.
I have a number of friends who think of Emancipation the same way I think of Sign O' The Times. The greatest thing about Prince is that he created timeless music that crosses boundaries. What I may like, you may hate and vice versa, but we are both happy to jam to him regardless. The expanded version of my book PRINCE and The Purple Rain Era Studio Sessions 1983-1984 was released in November 2018. I've been here since 2003. I used to be baffled by it, but I got over it, because I realized that there were going to be generational dividing lines with such a prolific artist with a large discography. Good night, sweet Prince | 7 June 1958 - 21 April 2016

No. Not really. I mainly focus on those that been his fans the longest; '70's and '80's!

More by individual song selections and personal faves to be honest. I could make a "best of" compilation for myself that would make this board cry I think. A lot of the stuff I like seems to catch a shit ton of shade around here. [Edited 10/25/18 15:51pm]

Dont need some article to tell us why we gravitate to certain eras regarding what we listen to in our formative years that are special or salient neurologically. Thats a no duh. But you dont have to have-been a teen during 1980-2000 to know that NewPowerSoul sucks, U2's POP doesn't have shit on Joshua Tree, The Stones Dirty Work is bs compared to Sticky Fingers etc. [Edited 10/25/18 18:47pm] "Climb in my fur."

no... My Favorite time was 85-88 (you can throw in the other 6 albums too) because one the music was so good but also that was my high school and my first year or so in the military... years that held many changes... those 10 albums were a part of me... and they held on to me.... by the time batman (and beyond) I was grown. *also it was not until about the time ATWIAD came out that I was allowed to buy music. Yeah but don't y'all see the absurdity of it? Not only do y'all allow cognitive biases and other neural factors to alter your judgement ("It's good/bad" used instead of "I like/dislike it"), but y'all go as far as debating and arguing over whose hallucinations are the realest. . It's pretty much like a convo between 2 nutcases where one would say he can walk over a beam of light, and the other replies the light won't be solid enough and it'll break under his weight, and they argue for hours about who's right and who's wrong... . This is precisely what's always driven me mad about this board!! It upsets me so much when people do that! djThunderfunk said: No. I've read 1,001 threads about trimming Emancipation down to 1CD, so, I know that as fans we are NOT on the same page in regards to Prince favorites. That's how good Prince is. Exactly, and why would you trim Emancipation? Every disc is a perfect representation of Prince (minus swearing) of the Nineties, plus the three disc format made it chart. It’s brilliant. What rdhull was identifying was the core bias that triggers these debates. Everybody is going to have a "cognitive bias" towards the eras that they either (i) grew up in, or (ii) discovered during formative periods on their lives. Yes, and some context. I meant we already heard about that scientific theory and its bogus because as I stated in the WHOLE comment was that regardless when you were teen or when ones bran ws formulating endaring memories or whatever, NPS still sucks compared to PR era etc. as does later works by the other artists I mentioned no matter when the brain was doing the do. There's a reason SOTT is heralded by others who were teens etc way AFTER that record was released. [Edited 10/26/18 13:42pm] "Climb in my fur."
