So what can Tidal actually release?

Me personally, I am underwhelmed by P&M 1983 release.. I am looking forward to Tidal's release of new Prince music. So, what can they actually release from the Prince archives/vaults?? pre 2013? Only 2013-16??? I would love to see P&M 2016...

I would bet that Prince did not sign a traditional old school record company contract with Tidal. I bet they can release whatever Prince gave them for that purpose before his death. Not all his recorded output during their partnership.

My guess is the Piano Microphone tour that Prince talked about releasing shortly before his death will be the Tidal release.

I would love to see BITNB, HNR3 (If there is any) or W2A album as the next release but there's a chance it will be P&M 2016.

I'm hoping there is an album that has Free urself on it. It's a great song and album worthy.

I really hope it isn't a live album. Piano and a microphone 2016 is what I expect to see released, I would of course still buy it. Hopefully we will get an announcement soon.

Not to sound like Bart, but IDK what the hell all the nonsense in the 4 posts above is about.

The press release was pretty clear about it being the result of a post-mortem negociation between the Estate and Tidal, and a selection of post-WB studio tracks that will be selected and assembled by Jay-Z in association with the Estate, therefore neither a live release nor an already existing, completed album, and certainly nothing Prince had planned in his lifetime.

The rest is up to anyone's guess, but at this stage we have virtually no way to know.

Yeah, I remember this as well. I hope whatever it is makes sense as a release - given the relative lack of information about unreleased material from this period compared to the 80s heyday, I am very curious to see if the resulting studio release includes a bunch of songs none (or very few) of us have ever heard of.

I hope it comes early in the year, but there aren't any concrete details about a release date or even a release quarter as far as I know.

Feel free to join in the Prince Album Poll 2018! Let'a celebrate his legacy by counting down the most beloved Prince albums, as decided by you!

I'm hoping it's Black is the new black. Or at least the last tracks from it he was working on . Think I heard from a Dr funkenberrypodcast that 8 tracks were completed for sure.

It's OK, but as a general rule it's always best to check the original source of an info or statement before talking/asking about it. And it usually doesn't take more than a 2 minutes Google search. I've seen whole threads where people discussed statements that were never made, wondered about things we knew and similar absurd situations. It's better to avoid such situations.

As Databank said it will be a collection of post-Warners vault tracks curated by Jay-Z.

There was a rumour recently from Violet Reality (Casey Rain/Militant) that 'Prince and the Band' was one song being considered. Casey has proven to be reliable in the past, so I'd give that some credence.

And the album will only be exclusive to Tidal for a fortnight, before all those old objections arise yet again. And all the exclusive material Prince ever provided to Tidal has long been available from the Tidal store for download without a subscription.

well a lot of the articles posted about it constantly use the word Album to describe the release'. So who really knows what is going to be released. A mixture of old and newer songs or a load of tracks
recorded for a intended album. Whatever i look forward to it.

Thank you... I have been so advised....
