Lots or people taking credit for Prince’s ideas lately. Purple was not even associated with Prince until the the 1999 album, which was long after Moon was gone.

Moon also captured the last Pegasus alive (alas soft, ill, and old — the initial idea for the session was to shoot a trailer for a secret Prince-penned blaxploitation pr0n lo-fi movie called "Horny Pony vs. Purple Pussy" and use the equine animal as a prop ; when U gotta eat U gotta eat, man) just in time for the Prince album back sleeve shot.

This sordid species-extinction hunt was paid for by none than "Dirthiest Howie" Husney,
a louche Uptown bearded manager who frequented colored people and that wouldn't sit. Sit! He wouldn't.

Deprived from fresh air, the chicken-horse soon got worse, and as Ol' Peggie departed, she whispered:
"We had fun, didn't we?" "I'm doing horse" "Yee-pee-ka-yay, mothafuckazzz..."

"... And let their names be vanished 4ever from all books that carrieth my name.
Wait, no, I didn't say burn all the books with 'Victor' in it, you dumb ass. Books about cymbals? What cymbals?
Who got you promoted? God, what's in an army? OK, I quit."

There someting odd about seing him in that ass picture being a normal weight and not super thin. It makes you realize how sickly or almost too thin at times in the later years his body appeared.

I cringe when I see video of the P&M shows. Very hard to watch. He was alarmingly thin. I remember watching him in interviews and other TV appearances as far back as 2013 abd thinking he's too thin. It's just a shame no one got help for him in time.

Actually my favorite buns are laced in black.
Syracuse had the most wonderful ass, for the only reason we got it on tape.
Every frame of it spells magic. Incidentally, the Revolution naysayers take it in the buns as well.

I just can't get enough of the Wendy gigglings/Mike thumps/Sweaty forehead/Waterproof mascara/25 yeahs.

Now that's an ass I would rate #1. But of course it's stayed the same for eons, so pick your year.
But those PR Tour black diamond pants, I must say, my queerometer goes through the roof. It's barely sexual. Hard to explain. I think I'm possessed.

that's right, he'd used Purple in one of his very early, unreleased tunes but there was a guy on here who made a persuasive arguement that Prince stole a lot of ideas from Jesse Johnson, including the idea of claiming a personal color, jesse's was pink. Don't know if it's true or not but blackguitarist had some good info, never seem him anymmore.

As far as I know, Chris Moon was not his manager in 1981. Prince didn't reference or use purple more than any other color while Moon was his manager. There is nothing purple about For You and it is a huge stretch to say that his brand was purple for the "Prince" album. Unlike most folks on this website, I have been a diehard since 1979 and I didn't associate him with purple until after Moon was gone. Most folks here becames fans during the "purple" period and that is their only frame of reference. No offense against Moon, but isn't he the one that says that he was the inspiration for Under the Cherry Moon?

He didn't have to be his manager in 1981

But Prince was released in 1979 and the use of purple on his name and song credits are not coincidence. All ideas are not fully implimented.

.

And yes many think Prince really started pushing it once he saw Jesse Johnson and his pink clothes and guitar.

.

The last time they talked, Prince—following the massive success of Purple Rain—had become the music royalty that Moon envisioned. “He calls me up,” says Moon, “and he goes, ‘I’ve just made another movie that hasn’t been released yet, but I wanted to tell you first about it. The movie’s called Under the Cherry Moon. The movie’s all about you. Under the Cherry Moon—get it? C. Moon. In the movie, I play a playboy, just like you were back in the day, and [his name is] Christopher.’ I mean, it was mind-blowing to me.”

I think it is very feasible that Moon and Husney were discussing all facets related to his image back in the late 70's. Name, style, lyrics, recording concepts, color, etc....would all be part of the package and plan. Moon and Husney were handling everything for him in order to secure the record deal. Not sure why it's so hard to believe that they were guiding him. He was a 16 yr old kid wiho was a great player, but he had no connections. These guys were older, experienced professionals who knew what path to take to get him signed.

*

Regarding UTCM - I believe Moon said he thought there was a connection there. According to the Biographies and interviews, he was apparently a "player" with the ladies when Prince met him, and used his Photography/Ad studio to appeal to women. He would take them back there for hook ups. He stated his lyrics to Soft & Wet were inspired by a night with two women at his studio. It's not completely unbelieveable that Prince would have loosely based his Christopher "gigolo" character on his impression of Moon - as well as himself - during that time. Prince's songs and movies were always based on his own life events.

I think too many people are looking at Prince after all the success and fame and believing a genius means someone who knows everything and doesn't need anyone.

I don't understand people resistance at believing people who adored Prince and saw his passion and did whatever they could to help him. That is the part people are missing. The full doors wide open access to whatever Prince wanted or needed to make it happen. Cause hell, none of the people talking against any associate to Prince was there or could do anything. Prince appreciated these people.

Clearly, Prince was inspired by others, but he was most inspired by his own spirit and God. When I hear people trying to take credit for his connection to purple, or the inspiration of his movies/songs then I'm going to say something because the creative process was very spiritual, sacred and private for Prince. These people didn't say these things when he was alive when he could shoot them down. I remember the Larry King interview when Prince could not even remember his former manager's name, but these people inspired some of his greatest ideas? I heard one of his former associates saying that he was the inspiration for Diamonds and Pearls and the inspiration for Prince changing his name to a symbol. People need to stop. I'm going to defend Prince even if others will not.

Come on man, we are talking about 1977... god and soul etc we are all inspired by the world we live in Prince isn't god which everything would come from with no inspiration from other.

How do you know they didn't say these things? Yes they did, and many people just never thought. After someone dies, people have all kinds of memories of the life and experiences with someone 'they' knew.

You know Prince's name, he doesn't know you're. I forget the name of a lot of people I knew at once. How many people did he work with through his life by the Larry King interview?

You're not really defending Prince. Moon Studios did a lot for Prince. What did you do for Prince's career?

Obviously, Prince took inspiration from his own thoughts, spirit. feelings, etc, but it is also clear that he garnered ideas and inspiration from those surrounding him professionally, musically, and personally - we have valid statments from many who worked with him on this.

I think you are a bit naive and gullible if you actually think that Prince did not remember Owen Husney's name during the Larry King interview. - when he remembered and discussed many other details from that time period durin the same show I have no doubt that was a personal dig twoard him, as they did not part on good terms. Also, I believe that they had some legal issues at some point based on their contract and Prince paying him money owed.

*

Obviously, not everything past associates/friends state is going to be valid or verifyable; however, many of these things have been discussed through the years and documented in Biographies. We also know that Prince wanted to be perceived as a "one man show" - creating and handling everything - so these people stayed "behind the scenes", and were never publicly recognized.

That could very well be true. Susan Rogers stated that Prince picked the colors (peach and black) and polka dot outfits for the SOTT album/tour, because these were Suannah Melvoins favortie colors and style. He also played the peach guitar.

*

There is no doubt that girlfriends, associates, friends and others brought ideas and inspiration to him throughout his life - espeicially with his music, but also with general life/business choices. All humans do this, and he was no exception. After all, he was human too. A genius musician, but also human. If anything, he would take inspiration from others more than the average person, because he was an artist. This is what they do.

One other note about Owen Husney - Prince LIVED with Owen and his wife for months out in, I believe it was Sausalito, while he was recording his first record. He and his wife were his guardians at that time, and they treated him like a son. No way that Prince did not remember his name......

He knew his name very well. He took quite a few digs in that interview and fooled good old Larry.

This we agree on smile Owen was the main dig I remember, but I'm sure there may have been more.

Prince was a chameleon when it came to both print and television interviews. He projected in various ways based on who he was talking to at the time - Chris Rock, Kurt Loder, Today Show, Tavis Smiley, etc... - he was different in just about every segment. It was also clear who he had an affinity for, and who was just part of his promotion obligation ( Chris Rock vs. a random talk show host). He could be "boy from the hood" Prince, comedic Prince, aloof Prince, etc. Most likely depended on his mood and/or person who was interviewing him.

*

He was defnitely "professional and subdued" Prince with Larry King. He knew he was talkng to a respected journalist/media figure.

I think some of us misinterpret Moon. When Prince calls him on the phone, he tells him about the private jokes in the movie. Even Moon understands the story is very loosely based on him.
Like The Kid in Purple Rain, we are talking fictional characters. And it's not because you have a mundane conversation about branding (oh, hello prince ©®™) and purple being the color of royalty that you're gonna use it on the spot, especially when you have just your name and you have to prove yourself. I mean imagine Prince going all Pompadour and Mascara on the first album. Everybody would have thought he was showing off. Pretty dangerous path (see TTDA).

Exactly. there were more than likely many aspects of UTCM taken from his present or past relationships and life experiences. I think the romantic story in the film was at least loosely based off of his relationship with Susannah - based on the differences in their backrounds. No doubt the romantic storyline in PR was inspired by both Vanity and Susan Moonsie. The aspects of the dramad and fighting between Prince and his girlfriend(s) and the competition with The Time were actually happening then. Of course there were dramatic embelleshments like the scenes depicting his family life, but there was truth in many other areas.

Moon did do a lot for Prince. I just think people need to stay in their lane when it comes to taking credit for his creative work. Prince was inspired by many people, but no one person can take the credit for his creations. We are here to protect his legacy and set the record straight. In about 50 years we will all be dead and we cannot let misreprentations or overstatements about Prince go unchecked.
