I was there that night & I remember thinking what's he going on about? I'm guessing he just wrote it on the fly to add a new element to the performance. What was cool was the band just started jamming the long intro & P was on the mic behind the bar from the left of the stage. It was funny watching everyone trying to figure out where he was. P was the master of creating a moment in a live setting.

Funny I was just checking out this show, going through my inventory and rather randomly was drawn to it. Been years since I listened and did not catch the lyrics you mentioned. Prince was in a weird space in 2001 to be sure. Daisy Chain itself is not that accessible lyrically. Who knows what he was on about? So anything seems possible! Stand at the crossroads, and look, and ask for the ancient paths...(Jeremiah 6:16) www.ancientfaithradio.com

I'm intrigued to hear this now. Never been an era I've been fond of but I'll have to try and seek this out....

It's 21 minutes of funky bliss, especially when P grabs the one eyed bass [Edited 9/4/18 14:30pm]
