admittedly, i don't know much about her, saw her in batman and the natural, what i recall most about her is she went bankrupt and wore clothes from prince's lovesexy era, that i guess he gave her, to court. a little wierd. on the positive side, she's part Indian so she can't be all bad.

I disliked the song and video simply because I found it vomit inducing.

I really don’t understand the hate for the SOTT video – it’s one of his most innovative. The field of audio-responsive visuals is huge now, but that video was ahead of its time. It’s pretty rudimentary by today’s standards, but still...

Agreed. It's one of the earliest lyric videos...

I believe I love every music video from Prince, especially though from Controversy (1981) all the way to Gold (1996)

because I was there at the time of release - yes, (from 1983 and on all the way)


Judged by today standards of music videoes I agree they look maybe a little "simple"

However what was extremely interesting back then was to witness "what look / image did Prince come up with" for the next album "project".


Prince's image and look was ever changing, especially in the great 80's.. it was so "über-cool" to witness!


For example some are disliking the Lovesexy videoes (Alphabet Street, calling this vid amateurish and other "shitty comments")..?


These fans are totally missing the point, I looooove Alphabet St. and in the spring 1988 this video was in high rotation on MTV and not that bad at all, no, actually this video is and was FANTASTIC,


Prince in his Lovesexy suit, the totally new & fresh Lovesexy look!


Anyway fans are different and some think it's bad, shame, back then it was amazing - and to me it will remain this, an amazing video from Prince, same with Glam Slam (great pop-funk), and the adorable I Wish U Heaven video, such a grat music video, like I have mentioned above!


I love them, those music videos, with simple still yet very much STYLE.


Ok rant over, still a shame about those who just can't appreciate these small steps in Prince "history", don't judge them by todays standards.. just enjoy them (like I do)..

as i've said, i could do without the vids, i don't think they are that important, obviously prince must have had that sentiment somewhat and as far as "today's standards" even by the standards of that era, Mj had already ended the era of cheesy vids by that point, it was all about fancy shit. did it matter? not to me. the music was really what counted.

Thank God they weren't ruined by the usual bland video.

The SOTT video, you had to be there to understand the impact.
Have an two hours of 1987 MTV heavy rotation, then switch to this.
The visual minimalism matched the rawness of the beat, the sparseness of the blues.

It's not just a wink to Bob Dylan: it invents the Emoji heart,
the electronic display of text. We know take the visuals of "Toy Story" for granted,
but it was a very slow process.

I still believe it's an incredible piece of computer graphics,
and of course, Times New Roman, because of fate and technology.
The coldness you get from the crude digital is just the perfect landscape
for Prince's anguished voice at the turn of the millenium.
It's like an archive recording found in a dystopian future.
All that are left are lyrics depicting not just headlines, but human frailties
and repeated catastrophies through history.
And hence having a computer rolling the lyrics is just perfect.

Y'all act like Prince had a video to make, it did not care,
but the ones in charge here, they did very well considering the raw material (no visuals of Prince)
and tools (no shooting of Prince) at their disposal.
He tried to make people work under stress, and for a while, it was great.
The visual art direction of his eightes albums were astounding.

As for the "Paisley Park" video director, that's either Prince or someone who had a joint too far,
which in either case provides a satisfatory explanation.

But yeah, imagine Prince collaborating with a visual Clare Fischer...
Like the folks in charge of Peter Gabriel's So: Don't Give Up, Big Time, and the other one, I can't remember...
But I've always found Prince's music fine without visuals, it's so expressive
that whole worlds an situations come right out of it.
