Prince & Desert Island Discs...what could have been!

Okay, for those of you around the world and not from the UK, there's a quaint(?) radio programme on BBC Radio 4 (not the other more trendy BBC Radio 1 & 2 channels) that has guests select a few records that they'd want to take if they were ever to be stranded on a desert island.

I might be wrong but I think I heard that Eric Clapton said he'd take Purple Rain as a song of choice. Anyway, I don't usually listen to the show but I heard one the other day that was really interesting and it's such a great format for an interview - there's lots of episodes to download if anyone is interested. The show I listened to did not include any Prince songs (it was mostly Manchester based bands this time), but there must be many previous episodes that you can download where his music is featured.

This got me thinking, because it's a great way to understand an artist's influences, but if Prince had featured on the show (and man, I so wish he had), which artists' songs would have been chosen by Prince as an influence? Let's make it 3 records and suggest why...a bit of fun for a Friday afternoon and weekend.

Maybe we should ask Wendy & Lisa to get on the show for their Revolution gig in London next year..!
