. After how many years on stage suddenly stagefright is a reason for pills? People lsoe their fears for something in less sessions than P did shows per year. Pills and thrills and daffodils will kill... If you don't believe me or don't get it, I don't have time to try to convince you, sorry.

Paul, I thought the question was pretty clear. If he had pain, why would he need to self medicate?
1. Go to a Dr for help? 2. Buy drugs off the street? Well, Prince rarely dealt with things the usual way. And we don't know his history with doctors over the years. The wooh is on the one!

Good points. I think what might be driving threads like this are gaps in our understanding of who we thought Prince was. I get the sense that most posters on this thread are real fans but are trying to sort out the "truth" about Prince. I think we want to celebrate his life but need to understand it in the context of the truth, not what Prince wanted us to know. It is actually a labor of love. And this is a labor! His death was a shock to most of us, but the cause of death was even more difficult to digest. Then, we have faced the information the investigation yielded. Wow, it has been alot. I truly feel we are just trying the best we can to "put the pieces" together but clearly the picture is not complete yet. (Or I think most would not feel the need to continue to "dig") Re: his stage fright. His stage fright may have subsided over the years, but he was a guy who liked to challenge himself, ie, Coachella, The Super Bowl etc., and may have had episodic stage fright. I do think drugs gave him that super boost to put on many of his shows and after-shows. He obviously loved performing but I do get the sense he was "taking a little something extra". Part of why I think this was found in Mayte's book when he asked her to go back to the hotel and flush the drugs. Also, the "vitamin B" shots seemed questionable.

I hope not. What I am finding out about him has not diminished my admiration. Perhaps he did not think he was enough without augmentation.

Oh, I don't believe for a minute that he was junky. I believe he was a person who got hooked on pain pills because he was in pain and couldn't get off of them when he wasn't in pain. Just like 100's are battling every day in this world. That's why there is such an opioid crisis in the US.
People with confirmed pain problems got these prescriptions from their Drs. Big Pharma pushed these pills and people got addicted, Big Pharma knew how addicting it was from their test trials but failed to tell the Drs and the patients. Oxycontin was pushed as a miracle drug, AND it was, UNTIL it didn't work anymore. What happened? Why didn't it work anymore? The patient became tolerant and the Drs would up the dose, over and over again, until the dose was too high and patients with legit scripts were dying of overdoses. Then what happened? It came out that Big Pharma of course knew this all along and the Drs, quit prescribing because the DEA was coming down on them. What next? Oxycontin became high $$ shit on the streets, and more people died. So where did that leave the pain patients?..you know the very people who actually got helped from this nasty drug and who took it exactly as prescribed? They got them off the streets and people started pressing all sorts of crap into them. ... And more people died.
And there it is, the sad truth...every word. Thank you Penny.

I really don't recall P ever saying HE never touched drugs..it was more warning others not to...do as I say, not as I do. People take medication everyday for tons of reasons. Back when he started out, it was more of a stigma to take anything for what was perceived as mental health. He was introverted and very shy, and he may have been content to sit in a room and play for himself, but he couldn't make a living doing that. For people who would rather stick pins in their eyes than get up in front of an audience, you probably understand his dilemma. That BandStand interview with Dick Clark looked like a panic attack to me, covered up by "let's screw with Dick and not respond to him" on national t.v. You have no control over panic attacks, and back then I'm not sure they even had a word for them. But drugs were readily available to self medicate, and he discovered them. Also, the more you do something, the easier it becomes, and that includes getting up before an audience when it's a huge fear. His artistry was not fraudulent simply because he took something to cope. In the end he may have felt shame which may be why he was so reclusive, but I have nothing but admiration for what he accomplished in his life given his circumstances.

Dr D is an idiot, how does what he said even make sense? And stage fright my ass, but it goes to show ya some people will believe anything. He was getting legit pills from Dr. D. (albeit illegally). P put them in the bottles (considering he was purchasing $40,000 worth at a time, I doubt it was given to him in Tylenol bottles, but, who knows). Dr. D was long gone when P purchased the illegitimate drugs made to look like prescription drugs. Come on... do some research instead of trying to get people to spoon feed you the information so you don't have to read. [Edited 8/4/18 8:33am]

Hello? The investigation is over.
And Prince was not a fraud. That's absurd. But s*** comments like that certainly contributed to his deep desire for privacy. That desire was/is well known yet gets no respect here. This whole topic has gone off the rails. [Edited 8/4/18 10:06am] It's a hurtful place, the world, in and of itself. We don't need to add to it. We all need one another. ~ PRN

Interesting questions. I vote for someone at the airport. The emts were busy saving a life and KJ was watching them (didn't he check someone's phone to make sure no photos were taken?) They didn't know it was P when they landed, but possibly found out later and retrieved camera footage from security cameras when they found out...I'm just speculating. Some people also sit around listening to police scanners. A private jet landing with an unconscious passenger could be news...especially at an airport with no evening flights coming or going.
