I don't believe that Hans kept copies of songs, that's not really good practice for an engineer. Prince may have gave him some in some cases, but I very much doubt that he would specifically make copies for himself. Does Anna Waiting differ musically from Vicky Waiting? The wooh is on the one!

There's some additional guitar licks and synth parts. There's a circulating demo of "Vicki Waiting" which resembles "Anna Waiting" musically. Most of the differences though are lyrical and arrangement wise - for example, there's an additional high vocal harmony on the chorus that isn't on "Vicki".

I know this is not the same era but I remember Prince saying during an interview (don't remember the source at all ) that Prince confirmed that an extended 20 mn + version of ADORE from SOTT sessions was recorded and is in the vault ...would be cool if Militant can keep in touch with the engineer who was in charge of this sessions (susan Rogers?) and confirm that?

I've never seen that quote. Where is that from? That is a cool bit of information. Thanx! The expanded version of my book PRINCE and The Purple Rain Era Studio Sessions 1983-1984 was released in November 2018. - That was from the Peach and Black Podcast. Two of the guys got to hang out with Prince and he mentioned the 20 minute version of Adore as well as a deluxe version of 20TEN among other things. I can't remember the exact episode number, but I'm sure if you contact the fellas they would be more than happy to hook you up. I should point out that they just recount the story because they weren't allowed to record the interview.

Totally unrelated to H.M. Buff, but speaking of who has copies of what, I just watched Uncovering Prince With Elisa Fiorillo. She says she has a cassette copy of a previously unknown outtake I Think U Wanna Dance from her I Am album. That's interesting. Also, she mentions Dolphin, Strays Of The World and Dark as examples of Prince's great songwriting ability - I like that!

Blue Light is just alright? Unforgivable! . Thanks, I thought the interview at just under an hour and twenty minutes was a bit short. Should have been at least five days longer. Thanks to Hans, as well. Loved hearing about Larry Graham. Dude gets a bad rap from certain parts, nice to hear something positive from someone who actually met the man.

we'll all be dead before they delve into that time period

You're welcome. I just listened to the most recent show (non album tracks VOL 2) and when they reviewed "Rich Friends," which was supposed to be on 20TEN deluxe, they said the meeting with Prince happened in 2010. So that particular show after the meet probably came out in 2010 or early 2011. - I'm looking forward to more in your "Studio Sessions" series. You're doing important work! Perhaps you and Hans can get together if/when you're able to do the 1996-2000 era. Hi-yo Silver, it's The Bone Ranger!

Hans Martin Buff says : "There's two albums for every one that was released..." - THAT'S ABOUT WHAT ? 50/70 OR SO UNRELEASED ALBUMS ??? - "The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves. And wiser people so full of doubts" (Bertrand Russell 1872-1972)

I LOVE Han's quirky sense of humor. I can imagine him and Prince had a LOT of laughs together."That mountain top situation is not really what it's all cracked up 2 B when was doing the Purple Rain tour had a lot of people who knew 'll never c again @ the concerts.just screamin n places they thought they was suppose 2 scream."

Another great interview!!! Love, love, love your knowledge and enthusiasm for all things Prince!! Your episodes are well organized, include smart and interesting questions, and are also very entertaining. You and Kim are certainly part of the "Prince-o-pedia" club, which is impressive, because I don't think you two were around, or old enough for Prince in the 80's * Tamar is a fantastic singer, and seems to be a sweet and geniune person. Being a teen in the 80's and a HUGE Revolution fan, however, I was sad when she said she did not know who Wendy and Lisa were when she was performing on stage with them at the 2006 Brit awards. I know her age and musical exposure at that time played a part, but even more disheartening was that Prince did not tell her they would be on stage prior to the show I can only imagine how she felt afterward.

Madhouseman - LOVED your book. Read it in two days!! You MUST do the 85-87 recordings!!!

I enjoyed the Támar interview. I hope she got a copy of On Your Own. It's amazing that she doesn't have a copy of her previously unknown Milk & Honey-outtake Esther either. Anyway, watching the interview made me pull out my copy of Milk & Honey and giving it a few spins. As Prince's latter-day protegées go, this album was among the better. Love Redhead Stepchild, too.
I've been listening to 's 1993-1996 recordings of late, including On Your Own, so it was fun hearing the story behind that recording.
Now, as for other people from that era...Chronic Freeze had a questionnaire thread on the Org once and he didn't remember much of interest regarding the Era recordings, but might I suggest Ricky Peterson for an upcoming episode of Uncovering Prince by The Violet Reality? He co-produced some songs back then, including for The Gold Experience and Madhouse: 24 - he even worked on The Most Beautiful Girl In The World. Maybe he knows who it was originally about before sent it to his entire harem? And maybe he knows if there was a pre-existing recording of 319 from the Batman Era sessions (as Cat has claimed) before re-recorded it with The NPG with Ricky's help? Just a suggestion. Ricky Peterson is a great suggestion. He goes all the way back to the early days with Prince, and would certainly have loads of information to share on both 80's and 90's recording. * Redheaded Stepchild is my favorite Prince/Tamar song, and 319 is probably my favorite track on the Gold album, along with I Hate U I had not heard that 319 was possibly recorded back in '89. Wow, that would be an interesting story to hear.

Funny you should say that.... in April, Kim and I were invited to Paul (and Ricky's) family house to watch fDeluxe rehearse the day before their set at Paisley.
It was just the band, their manager, myself, Kim and Ricky there.
I made sure to tell him how much I enjoyed his work on songs like TMBGITW and Letitgo. |

Wow, what a treat. I believe they streamed on FB Live at Paul's house after that rehearsal. * What about an interview with Susannah? She has so much information on recordings for the 83-87 years. I loved her interview with Toure, which was more focused on her relationship with Prince, but it would also be great to hear more about her experiences with recording the songs with him during that period.

hi, Thanks a lot for the interview, good stuff!! One question on the interview: Hans-Martin refers 2 times to the decision to "open the studio". what is this about? making Paisley Park available to be rented by musicians as in the first years?
Secondly, general question: would you consider sharing the audio-only of your interviews similar to podcasts like Peach and Black and the Prince Podcat? I'm sure there's quite an audience interested in that (i converted the audio now to mp3 to listen to it on my commute).
