sucking on the ebony dancer inbetween these dirty sheets!"

The entire album's underrated.

This is a nice jam, which despite the simplicity of the chorus, is also interesting lyrically.

Now I know why he wrote Illusion, Coma, Pimp and Circumstance.

yeah, i like it. it's a song that gets zero mention here. seems like it leaves most people cold.

no one utterly loves it, few utterly hate it.

another song on this album that it very underrated is 'when you love somebody' which is, in
my humble opinion a truly overlooked little gem.

The album is okay, but in comparison to the other NPG albums, it's at the bottom of the list. The song in question isn't bad. It's a cutesy song, nothing deep. It's in the middle, as there are better and worse songs on the album.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

I like this one alot. One of the high points of the album. The "shoo-bed-ooh" chorus is the only weak point of this track for me. The tone of voice used is amazing, and I love the lyrics.

Love everything about it except the chorus. Feels lazy. Especially, when you hear it again, just a few songs later, as the lead line in Come On.

I have been a Prince fan since I was 8 years old.

If I never understand anything else. Prince made damn sure his True Funk Soliders would understand him...afterwards.

Fluently!!! kiss2 headbang

So U thought U just might lose your mind 2day
Brother pushin' that game on ya as if U wanna play
Askin' U every other sentence if them titties are real
One tramp even had the nerve 2 touch 'em as if U wanted a feel
CHORUS:
Shoo-bed-ooh, shoo-bed-ooh, ooh!
Shoo-bed-ooh, shoo-bed-ooh, ooh!

The money that U make ain't payin' the rent, so U sleep in cars
U wonder aloud if U're happy - U say, "Yea," as if U really are
This car U drive with no gas won't take U very far
U look up in the sky and wish upon a star (Upon a star)

CHORUS

The answer 2 the question of life is a gray-haired bitch at least
Suckin' on the ebony dancer in between these dirty sheets
Spittin' out the aftertaste of a boy who might not call again
If this is the game U stood in line 4 - how're U gonna win?

(How're U gonna win?)
Shoo-bed-ooh, shoo-bed-ooh, ooh!

So U thought he just might come every time U phone
As if U've never been lonely as if U've never been alone
(As if U've never been alone)
How U ever gonna win if U let 'em all see your hand?
Playin' the queen don't work on your knees as if U understand

CHORUS {x2}

The answer 2 the question of life is a gray-haired bitch at least
Suckin' on the ebony dancer in between these dirty sheets
Spittin' out the aftertaste of a boy who might not call again
If this is the game U stood in line 4 - how're U gonna win?
How U gonna win?

CHORUS {x2}

I always thought it was funny that he said he wasn't gonna swear anymore right before he put out this album, yet "Shoo Bed Ooh" features him repeatedly singing the word bitch. lol Not to mention the other lyric about sucking on the ebony dancer.

I thought it was fuckin' embarassingly bad when it came out - can't say I seek it out and think "gee, would really like to listen to 'Shoo-bed-ooh' now."
I've mellowed abit on the album so it's just 'meh' to me now.

✋🏾 Lol I didn’t really start actively listening to the entire “New Power Soul” album outside of the singles until 2011. I really got into this one early on. Pretty much an extension of “Emancipation”.

One of my favorites from this album...and lyrically, its definitely his last really "explicit" song that he released. Yeah, he still slipped things in, but never again did he say it so blatantly than he did on this one.

Prince fan since you were 8 years old! eek lol Now thats what I'm talking about, haha. Whats your first few songs you can remember were out around that age?

Soft and Wet...FIRST. And Just As Long As We're Together second. But as much I liked BOTH songs...neither of them set me on the life-long journey of being the Prince fan that I became. That distinction belongs to "It's Gonna Be Lonely". From the first time I heard that song, Prince had me ...lock, stock and barrel. And the ONLY person with balls big enough that EVER DARED come close to distruping that love affair was Prince...himself. Yet purposely or otherwise he was aided in that...and I'm NEVER going to forget it!

I knew from the start that I loved you with all my heart.

It's not a bad song but the production lets it down. Typical of the era.
