I reckon the ship might have sailed on this one, at this point new fans will be finding him via streaming sites so we're talking playlists. Old fans can be served by physical sets of unreleased material and remasters etc. etc. but time's up for a big selling compilation album. | |

I think there is room for a collection of the absolute gems of his latter period. It should be aimed at the non-hardcore fan looking for a way in to the maze of releases post WB. I don’t think it should be restricted to single releases either. Off the top of my head something like this: 1. The Most Beautiful Girl in the World (single version) 2. Black Sweat 3. Guitar 4. I imagine any such compilation would include roughly 2 discs from the oft-compiled 1978-1993 years and only one of the post-1993 years. So, let's assume we'd get something like 4Ever as the first two discs, and then picking 20 songs for post-1993 period, maybe something like: Feel free to join in the Prince Album Poll 2018! Let'a celebrate his legacy by counting down the most beloved Prince albums, as decided by you! | |

I've been working on a set since the 90's (started on cassette, moved to CD and now digital). It comes in 6 parts: The singles (songs released as singles somewhere in the world or in some format. Includes album versions and extended versions). Posthumous singles (exactly what it sounds like). The B-sides and rarities (includes extended versions of B-sides plus soundtrack songs, digital streamed songs, and so on. The last 2 discs are live B-sides). The Alternate mixes (All other official remixes of songs). Single edits (Short versions of the songs, some are album versions if the album version was shorter than what I put on the Singles set) and Unofficial mixes (These used to be mixed in with the Alternate mixes but I had so many unofficial mixes the set would have been enormous had I kept adding them, these are some of the older unofficial mixes in my collection and are mostly from DJ remix services. Since I initially started pondering what I would include on a Greatest Hits album, I have seen several additions to this thread that have included some tracks that I would love to see on a Prince Compilation. I think of a greatest hits album with the intent of opening up more of his lesser known works to an audience who may have not heard things that werent played by the radio or show up through general YouTube researching.
