Prince Pays for Clyde Stubblefield,s medical Bills

"Stubblefield's wife Jody Hannon received an unexpected

call while Stubblefield was undergoing chemotherapy for bladder cancer:

Prince's people were on the line,

and they wanted to know how much Stubblefield needed in order to pay

off his massive medical bills.

True to his buttoned-up, discreet nature,

Prince requested that his donation --

a whopping $80,000

to help pay for Stubblefield's treatment

-- be kept a secret from the press."

"And just when I heard they had done that,

I was shocked, I was like, '

Wow, why did they do that?'"

Stubblefield asked.

"They don't even know me!

Prince's uniqueness went far beyond his sensual lyricism and purple ensembles.

"He was very different.

To help people,

number one, that makes you different right there," Stubblefield told Madison, Wisconsin's News 3.

Though Stubblefield once had the opportunity to play in Prince's studio,

the two never crossed paths,

which made Prince's large donation all the more baffling for Stubblefield.

"I still don't understand why," Stubblefield said.

He insists that while his music made its impact,

Prince's generosity will mark his legacy.

"I appreciate him and respect him and love him," Stubblefield said

As a musician, Prince was fearlessly alone – a self-propelling catalyst with a vision so powerful it will take us decades to truly understand it. Yet unlike others who can be classed in the same artistic league – Bob Dylan, David Bowie, Joni Mitchell to name just three – he applied the same logic to the business that inconveniently sat between him and his fans. Prince proved that the industry can be bent to your will and not the other way around.

"I think it was Prince’s work ethic that really inspired me the most.

He was in it for the love of music.

We would be rehearsing the live band, recording in the studios, and making videos in the afternoon. Then,

when everyone was tired and wanted to go to bed,

he would decide to do a six-hour live show for thirty locals.

His work ethic and his ability to apply himself across all different mediums and spectrums,

from doing live shows, rehearsals, and videos, to songwriting for himself and for others.

All of this, in the span of a day’s time.

It was truly magical being around him."

"I was always blown away with Prince’s talent. I thought I was pretty good at keyboards, but he could play rings around me. And then I remember that I didn’t know he played any other instruments. There was a school play and they needed a band put together to play for it and so they said, “What do you want to play?” And I said, “I’ll play drums.” And Prince looked at me kind of like, “I didn’t know you played drums,” and he said, “I’ll play guitar.” And I looked at him like, “Wow, I didn’t know you played guitar."

"We take a break and I go to the bathroom, and I hear someone on the drums and I’m thinking it's probably the music teacher at the time and I walk out and it’s Prince on the drums and he’s absolutely lighting the drums on fire. I come back in and he hands me the drumsticks and I’m like, “ Oh my God, I’m so done now.” This dude was just amazing. He could play any instrument better than people who actually played that instrument."

"He would take the bass and show Terry a bass line and hand the bass back to Terry and Terry looked at it like he’d never seen a bass in his life. Just his musicianship was on a level of really nobody else."

"When people say they knew at an early age he was going to be really good, I can really say it because I saw it, I heard it."

The Life and Style of Prince – The Last Dandy Megastar

Image result for Prince in a SUit

To understand how and why he achieved such a unique journey,

it’s important to understand a little about his relationships with

two key factors in his life: god and sex.

......themes of sexual and moral ambiguity run throughout

his lyrics and musical style,

and didn’t so much spill out but exploded into his wardrobe

I met Prince in summer of 1977 at Uncle Sam’s in Minneapolis,

before it was called First Avenue.

My cousin and I were 19 years old, and there to see

Brian Auger’s Oblivion Express in concert.

We got there early to get some good seats,

and no one else was there yet.

Got our drinks and found a great spot to sit down right up by the stage.

Uncle Sam’s had an amazing glass dance floor that lit up,

which I thought was very cool.

Some good music came on and my cousin and I started to dance

to it when this

handsome and sexy-looking young man ran over and joined us.

Screen+Shot+2016-09-06+at+7.46.16+PM.png

I remember thinking he was my size

(I’m 5'2", about 105 pounds).

So we are dancing with this guy and he can dance!

I felt inadequate; I’m not that good of a dancer. Right!
.................... I kept dancing with him and

he starts to do the splits to the right and left like five times.

I’m like, “Wow! You’re really good.”

He just said, “Thanks, my name is Prince.”

I introduced myself and my cousin,

and he asked where we were from; I told him St. Paul.

At that time he told us he just recorded his first album.

Really cool! I asked him what the name of the album was called

he said it will be called Prince.

.........I just remember the look he had on his face.

He was so shy and cute with those sexy big brown eyes,

so lovable I just wanted to hug him.

"The eighties had arrived. I felt like I was racing a souped-up Ferrari with no one challenging my front position. But then I looked into my rearview mirror and saw this one sports car gaining on me. The driver was so small I could barely see his head above the steering wheel. Strange thing is that, on the advice of others, I had invited him into the race. He didn’t catch me—and he wouldn’t for a long time to come—but I never liked his fuckin’ attitude.

He called himself Prince."

LOL about the shower floor.

And Yup about Dirty Mind review:

"Dirty Mind [Warner Bros., 1980]
After going gold in 1979 as an utterly uncrossedover falsetto love man, he takes care of the songwriting, transmutes the persona, revs up the guitar, muscles into the vocals, leans down hard on a rock-steady, funk-tinged four-four, and conceptualizes--about sex, mostly. Thus he becomes the first commercially viable artist in a decade to claim the visionary high ground of Lennon and Dylan and Hendrix (and Jim Morrison), whose rebel turf has been ceded to such marginal heroes-by-fiat as Patti Smith and John Rotten-Lydon. Brashly lubricious where the typical love man plays the lead in "He's So Shy," he specializes here in full-fledged fuckbook fantasies--the kid sleeps with his sister and digs it, sleeps with his girlfriend's boyfriend and doesn't, stops a wedding by gamahuching the bride on her way to church. Mick Jagger should fold up his penis and go home. A"

Why?

Because his phenomenal guitar-playing was just one arrow in a quiver

full of remarkable talents.

He was such a masterful singer, songwriter, producer, performer, bandleader, dancer, multi-instrumentalist and global sex icon that his overall

Prince-ness often eclipsed what may have been his most formidable talent:

playing guitar.

There are many pop stars who are great performers –

but there is no chart-topping pop star in history who could play guitar like Prince.

Imagine if Michael Jackson had played the solo on “Beat It”?!

That was Prince on a Tuesday"
