It's definitely my favorite era for looks/style: That scruffier, thrown-together, rough-around-the-edges look, with the spiky shaggy hair -- just the most "rock and roll" by my measure.

Forshure I am. And I remember it all vividly. Well, maybe not so vivid since I am older now.

Hardly an era. He wore that badge for about 3 concerts. Move along.

I think this 'era' is a lot wider than assumed. Even during the 1999 period people in the camp including bodyguards and techs were wearing Rude Boy tshirts
I would say the attitude extended into the Purple Rain period

Me!!! My first favorite era. Who doesn’t? Just like what everyone already said, for being a bit rough around the edges.

I feel this was his best era. It was raw, sometimes vulgar, in your face, and foreward thinking. The Time and Vanity 6 added to this musical word he was building. I was a little kid listening to my older brothers Parliament Funkadelic, Bootsy, and Ohio Players albums, but Prince was the first artist that felt like he was from my generation even though I was only 10 years when Dirty Mind came out. I can't believe I was listening to Dirty Mind at 10. LOL. I remember my brother brought home the Dirty Mind album and I thought "who is this on the cover?" Is that a girl or a guy. Why is he wearing underwear and heels? Is that that Sylvester dude? All those questions sudsided, when I heard the first track and I said yes. Yes. Wherever this dude is going, I'm listening. It sounded raw, dangerous, young, and unpredictable. Man, what I would give just to go back to that time for one day just to experience again.
