Days of Wild... Message?

What do you think Prince's overall message in Days of Wild?

Love this one. Most of his angry/dissing songs are such jams.

That's cute. I doubt it though.

"Hold on to your wits" is the sample and as far as I know its just a critique of bland generalisation rather than individuality

In my understanding it is about:

Rap is possible without silly talk about guns, drugs and bitches.

And that being different is the real coolness

Is it wits or wigs?

Have to dig up the Poet 99 bootleg.

Awww I vaguely remember hearing something like this. Did he say it wasnt cohesive with the release? Odd he would take the opinion of a critic to do something like that.

I always thought it was ‘wigs’ going off The Beautiful Experience movie when at the beginning of DOW he kind of shakes his hair. And at the end he shaves Mr Hayes’s hair but I’ve seen people on here over the years says it’s ‘wits’

Took it off of what album? Are you saying it was supposed to be on a album before Crystal Ball?

The studio version was meant to be included on The Gold Experience and was part of the tracklist shortly before release.

The studio version just doesn't catch me like the live versions. One of my top joints. I always took the message from perhaps Prince not agreeing with the hip hop image and style, like a tongue n cheek thing.

I remember asking Tommy B about that track, they could never capture in the studio the same energy this song has live. I love this song. I think it really fit in with his vibe at the time. It was a shame he just didn't take a live recording and doctor it up in studio and release it on an album in my opinion.

What are you outraged about today? CNN has not told you yet?

Agreed. It needed to be on the album in some form. It was also intended to be on a later extended US release of Exodus, but that fell through.

hardwork

Saw Prince perform a 10 or 12 minute "Days of Wild" during a three hour show in Chicago in April 1998 on a Friday night. He was jumping off the piano and cussing like a sailor and playing his ass off.

Anyone that was at that gig remembers it. "Days of Wild" played LIVE? With Prince doing splits across the stage with very liberal use of the word "fuck" in all its forms? As funky, or funkier, than ANYTHING he's ever done. Absolutely fucking priceless!

Was any tracklist ever known for that planned US rerelease (at the time rumored to be a 2-CD set)? I've never seen one. What is your source about DOW being on it? Would it have been sang by Sonny? There's no mention of a Sonny version on Pvault.
