If I were WB I would release a reissue of one of his better selling albums along with outtakes. Much like the PR reissue. the problem with the PR reissue was that a) millions of people already own that album. Literally millions. And b) when Prince died, those that didnt have it but were reminded they used to like it, went out and bought it before WB reissued it. And c) because the timing and quality were off.

But an album like 1999 where millions used to own it but probably don't anymore, and because it came before Prince went big time, it may be a good commercial choice. Many will remember owning it and realise they need to own it again, and many will never have owned it but know the title song well enough. Throw in outtakes and possibly a live video and it could be commercially positive.

Obviously, like most, I would prefer something more obscure and unheard, but WB will have to think commercially. If WB are to be successful with Prince's 80s catalogue they have to think the long game. And the first thing is to get Prince back on the radar for the casual listener. So before they can start releasing obscure stuff and unreleased albums, they have to use his more popular stuff to gain traction.

1999 would be my wager. That or SOTT. But personally I would save SOTT for a another day because that can be a very rich and deep release with some great outtakes, Crystal Ball, live shows, the concert movie etc. So i would wait until I have rebuilt the fanbase somewhat before releasing the real juicy stuff.

Lovesexy may be a good option because it didn't sell that well back in the day and I think is probably a lot more accessible today than it may have been back then. Plus there is an awesome live show that really shows off the genius of the man that can accompany it. A little thin on outtakes perhaps, or maybe that just means not many leaked so there could be a little gold mine for us uber fans too. Perhaps release it with TBA too as that album has always been the naughty twin to Lovesexy for me.

TL;DR WB are not going to release obscure unreleased tracks without a known album to back it up. They need to make money and gain traction with new and long lost fans. Relying on us, the hard core fan base for the long game is not a wise financial investment.

I'm not sure that Lovesexy would be the best choice for the next release. However, when/if WB re-releases Lovesexy, I would like to see the continuous one-track album, the album split into separate tracks, unreleased material from this era, and a DVD of the Dortmund show. In addition, I hope that there would be lyrics to all of the songs as well as commentary from band members like Sheila E., Dr. Fink, and Cat Glover in order to help explain Prince's mindset when making the album. Because Lovesexy is very much a concept album, it might be helpful for a superfan to provide some interpretation and "break it down" in order to make Lovesexy more accessible to a new generation of fans. I don't think that the album needs to be re-mastered; to me, it sounds good as-is.

worst thing about being an avid boot collector is that we have so much already. The estate needs / must work with the fan community. Imagine if the next 2projected releases are what we have already! Give me stuff like 'deliverance' EP any day of the week - that still kicks my ass!

I guess the flip side is that the general public dont have what we have so have yet to discover the gems!

Shockalaka

Out of the releases listed in the OP, I’d be most interested in hearing a good master of the Dream Factory (3rd June 1986 configuration).
_
Both Camille and the later Dream Factory configurations are equally great albums, but we’ve heard the bulk of their tracks in Sign 'O the Times already. I’d much rather go for something new and hear a studio-quality master of In A Large Room With No Light from the 3rd June configuration. music
_
The rest of those releases don’t interest me much, except for maybe the Controversy documentary + live show release, since the tour was one of my favourites - so I’d again love to hear it in better sound quality.
What was that?

Aftershock!

Dream Factory might not be the most exciting release for us, but it could be the one to generate most interest for casual and non-fans. The music press would no doubt love it and hail it as a lost classic. I'd rather have this released first and then the time taken by WB to really get other projects right and released when they are ready and not rushed.

Well i think the idea that WB could work with bandmates to promote unreleased music. It would make it both retrospective and current as these musicuans were nit given the chance ti go public with music they helped create

That's not "Live". It covers tours from 87 to 93, and I don't believe we know the track listing.
