Any speculation on how many unreleased Prince rap songs are in that vault?

Perhaps we could see a whole Prince rap album?

The mic presence and technique in this are amazing. His vocals are studio quality during this performance

It's lip-synced, based on a edited recording from a live concert in New York.

How disappointing is that...real music...? OK, so his lip-syncing is pretty special on this performance then...and the rap from the live performance is pretty good. *smiles*

With any luck, the rap songs will stay in the vault.

Too many of you guys are off put by rap. Not everything he made was amazing but there’s definitely some decent rap tracks from him. Maybe because I’m relatively young and I was into hip hop before I really dug into Prince back catalogue but I quite enjoy some of the hip hop influences songs he’s made. Open your minds, he definitely made some hot trash but I see his hip hop ventures get shit on way too much. I could name 3 current “rappers” that can’t hold a candle to Princes worst hip hop songs

On page 138 of her book, Mayte describes the prince/3 Chains o' Gold era (1992-1993) as a "hypercreative" period for Prince because he was questioning all aspects of the relationships between artists and the music industry. She stated that there is a lot of unreleased material from this period in the vault. Since rap was a part of the musical repertoire of Prince and the NPG in 1992-1993, I imagine that there are more than a few unreleased rap tracks.

.

Personally, I am a big fan of the D&P and prince albums. I'm a child of the 90s (born in 1986), and while Prince's/prince's music was not a major part of my musical repertoire until high school, I love the infusion of house, hip-hop, and New Jack Swing styles in the popular music of the early 90s, and all of these styles permeate Prince's music from the early 90s.

.

As far as his rapping, I prefer Prince as a singer, but I do enjoy some of his rap-containing tracks, such as "Live 4 Love", "Gett Off", and "Sexy MF". If there are Prince tracks containing him rapping that are of the caliber of the aforementioned songs, I would love to hear them; but if the tracks are of the caliber of "Jughead" (which is one of my least favourite Prince songs), then I probably won't like his rap-containing tracks.

I speculate that there are none and never were any. I also wish the same thing.

I think there are a surprisingly amount of unknown and unreleased tracks in the Vault (not counting the soundboard recording's of literally every concert, rehearsal, jam session, and soundcheck).

Just yesterday I became aware of a totally DIFFERENT studio recording of POSSESSED from the one that came out on Purple Rain Deluxe. Utterly different drum machine pattern on it. Had no idea it existed.

If you look at the offifcial known recordings from 1977-1982 it is obvious there are a lot of unknown tracks - just in comparison to his average yearly production from 1983-1988. For example, are we supposed to believe that in 1980 Prince only recorded like 10-12 songs for himself (not counting The Time)? He was known to record up to TWO tracks a day sometimes - fully recorded, mixed, etc.

U Know is a favorite for my non-Prince-loving friends who typically only listen to modern rap. Every single time, without fail, their ears perk up when that track comes on and they have to say something about how cool it is. U Know is considered to be rap by you guys, yes? It is for me.
