Do you still listen to big hits, classics? Are you tired of songs like Purple Rain, When Doves Cry, Little Red Corvette, Kiss? Do you still listen to them or you avoid them unless you listen to the entire album?

No, I listen to all of the above songs. I don’t care which songs were hits, I listen to the songs that I like. I don’t listen as often to I Wanna Be Your Lover, Raspberry Beret, or 1999; I like all of these songs, but they aren’t among my favorites. I don't go out of my way to listen to them the way I used to. But that's not exclusive to Prince music. Songs like Billie Jean, Dancing In The Dark, Living On A Prayer etc get the same treatment from me as Purple Rain and Kiss. All songs that drew me in to the artists in question but I've heard them so much that their impact is gone. Sign O' The Times came on the radio a few days ago and I changed to another station. And I love SOTT but I've kind of had enough of it now.

I still listen somedays however, it depends on my mood. I find myself wanting to hear the ones that aren't always the hits exactly, so at times I tend to skip them more often. That goes with every artist too whose hits are played over and over. Love is God, God is love, girls and boys love God above~

I sometimes get tired of them. I think it's okay to say that. There are days I could not stand to hear "When Doves Cry" or "Raspberry Beret" one more damn time.

Those hits are on a daily rotation on the radio station that gets played at work..I like them in a mix. People may say top 40/hits don't matter but that is really the music that gets remembered out in the wider nonfan culture.

Very rarely, unless I'm spinning the whole record.

Sometimes but in demo or live versions, rarely do I listen to say a single edit of something like say 1999 or the short version of Little Red Corvette. I enjoy listening to songs that don't have what I call "Don't Stop Believin" syndrome..when a certain song is completely spent of what attracted you to begin with.

I think on average I listen to each Prince album/side project maybe once every year or so, probably even less often by now, and I fear it'll be less and less often as time passes. I know them by heart, I've had some of them for nearly 30 years, I fancy listening to stuff I'm not so familar with. Now when I do listen to them, I still enjoy them a lot. But I can't listen to them over and over and over again for the rest of my life. Sometimes I wish I could rediscover the whole catalogue with fresh hears When all is said and done, it's possible that before I die I won't listen to each of those albums again more than a dozen time or so, and when you know how much I cherish them, it's a scary thought. I still listen to "When Doves Cry" all the time.I don't think I'll ever get tired of that song

I only listen to albums in its entirety without skipping tracks. I wouldn't say I'm tired of the songs that I heard a lot on radio stations/video channels years ago. Then again, I don't listen to Prince now as much as many orgers apparently do. My iTunes log says I haven't played any Prince in three months.

Really? You people are telling me that if Purple Rain came on the radio, you'd change the channel? We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

I can't speak for anyone else but I have changed channel on Purple Rain, When Doves Cry, SOTT, Kiss, Raspberry Beret etc. It doesn't matter to me how good a song is or who the artist is, if I've heard the song too much, I have very little interest in hearing it again.

I rarely did before he passed. I probably hadn't heard the official release Purple Rain intentionally for 20+ years. I didn't skip it in shows, but I didn't dig in, either. But, like everything you take for granted, my appreciation for those songs has been magically and tragically enhanced like they were new again. I never stopped listening to 12" versions, but rarely put on the album versions. And there is one big hit I just can't love, never have and still don't.. It's Prince blasphemy I know, but I have never liked Starfish & Coffee. I will absolutely skip over it now and always did. sitting in this cafe

I generally skip the hits, unless I'm listening to a specific album as a whole. .

Sure. Because several of his big hits are among his very best songs. Good night, sweet Prince | 7 June 1958 - 21 April 2016
