I guess the only big hit I don´t listen to anymore is Purple Rain. I think I haven´t listened to it for more than 10 years.

Same.

It's the Stairway to Heaven, Born to Run, Satisfaction, Flashlight, Jeremy, Smells Like Teen Spirit or Freebird related to Prince's catalog. Sick to death of it. I never thought Purple Rain (the song) was all THAT great to start with, even back in the day. I mean, it's really fucking good, don't get me wrong, and as an anthem it's hard to deny, but It's probably my least favorite track on that whole album to be honest.

Which is REALLY saying something about how good that record is.

Raspberry Beret, Kiss and U Got the Look bore me to death and, similarly, were never my standouts from those records either. DJ's like to play "Kiss" a lot but I always found it hard to dance to, especially considering Girls & Boys and Anotherloverholeinyohead are on that same album. I still love 1999 and LRC...Get Off, Controversy, Housequake and Mountains still hold up but none of those were ever really beat to death either. Of all the overplayed songs, WDC and LRC are probably still the ones that seem fresh to me.

Sure. Because several of his big hits are among his very best songs.

Interesting, because I always thought the opposite a lot if times and often his choice of singles baffled me. Shit, in a few cases his B-sides rivaled anything on the albums (17 Days, SAIMH, Girl, Alexa De Paris)

Not all of his hits are his very best songs. And sure, his single selection was very shaky at times. But it's not a zero-sum game.

But when I think about songs like LRC, WDC, Raspberry Beret, Pop Life, and Kiss, I associate them with his very best songs.

Of course, to fans like you and me, his hits are not fully definitive of his body of work. My top 10 list would include at least 6 deep tracks/killer B's on any given day (including 17 Days).

I usually listen to the more recent releases but I mix some of the hits in every now and then, along with some of my favorites from the 80's and 90's.

I will admit, some I am completely tired of, those are Lets Go Crazy, Purple Rain and Kiss as they have been played to death. The rest I still love, I never have a problem when 1999, LRC, WDC, Raspberry Beret, Pop Life and any of the singles from Parade other than Kiss, SOTT, Lovesexy, Batman, GB, D and P and Symbol come on.

.

Greatest hits albums are best for the car and travelling when I want my Prince in bite sized doses.

Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name

Depends what I am listening to. At the moment I am revisiting the 90's and Sexy MF is absolutely slammin'.

A few months back I was into the mid 80s stuff thanks to a lot of the recent leaks. So SOTT, TBA and Lovesexy were back in the favourites list, including Alphabet St, SOTT and Glam Slam.

When PR deluxe was released I was back on a PR, 1999, ATWIAD trip and I felt a fresh love for the hits from that period.

All in all I dont get bored of the hits, but I do get bored with a era and move onto another one. I then listen to the hits in that era in context of the albums/period.

I never listen to any of the hits compilations. They bore me.

I never tire of them. They are more than just the songs themselves; they are memories, snapshots in time. I can't think of a single Prince hit or classic that I've yet to listen to enough even after 35 years.

It depends. Of "the hits", WDC and LRC (gotta be the album version for both too, I hate the radio edits lol) are the only ones I go out of my way to listen to. The rest are mostly just when I'm listening to the album or some playlist. Hell, even when I listen to Purple Rain (the album), I'll stop PR and switch to a live version lol

chill..prince doesnt like men being front row, makes it hard to sing the ballads

I listen to mostly the hits but there are those gems that I like to enjoy alone while driving like “ a case of u “ and “ joy in repetition, live”

Agreed. I liked Purple Rain back then, great song, but not my favorite at all. And WDC still gives me the thrill.
