Interesting theory, thanks for this info!

Strive

Wouldn't make much sense to do a vinyl release of 1999 for Record Store Day if they were planning to do a Deluxe Edition down the road. I know the vinyl re-release of Purple Rain was only the main album but it came out at the same time as the Deluxe Edition.

.

If the next deluxe edition comes out in June like Purple Rain Deluxe did last year, that would leave two months in between releases.

.

Still it doesn't make much sense to do a vinyl release of 1999 for RSD period. Bernie Grundman's 2011 remaster is still readily available. But if it's on the list, I ain't gonna dispute it. Maybe there's some type of gimmick like colored vinyl.

It would make sense for this to be the 12inch single and not the album, with other 12inch singles from this era to follow.

But history has shown we always just have to wait for official confirmation - it won't be long.

The LRC/1999 7inch picture disc from last year was a nice thing. The other 12inchers were disappointing, nothing special about them at all. If this is just a standard 12inch issue or a reissue of the album then I'm not interested.

Maybe these rumours/unconfirmed news these latter weeks about a possible release of 1999 remastered album was only 4 a Vinyl Release...??.....this would be disapointing if this is the case only ?

Did you try playing it on a turntable? Or did you mean it was nice for going on a wall as decoration?

The reason I ask is, that RSD 7 inch picture disc was fucking garbage. It's possibly my record store got a bad batch, but we tried 4 or 5 copies and they were all pretty unplayable.

Sadly picture discs always sound bad and always have done.

I'm of the understanding picture discs aren't supposed to be played.

Your first purchase sounding bad would have been correct so no need to buy others.

I was thinking the same thing. The only "rumors" were to look for news regarding 1999... I hope this isn't it.

yeahthat Picture discs are great for collecting and displaying but not for listening. At best the sonics are poor, at worst they are unlistenable.

I don't disagree with you. I had a bunch of picture discs, but sold all but 1 or 2 that I just thought were too cool to part with (love that Sexy MF shaped picture disc). Other than that, I don't collect them.

Remember that thread discussing Troy Carter saying exciting stuff was coming in a Variety article that was being moderated then disappeared? This woulda gone nicely on there. Wonder why we weren’t allowed together talk about it? It would be a good day / time for them to do something.

I have picture discs that are 20, 30 and almost 40 years older than last year's RSD 7 inch disc, and they all sound far better, and are totally listenable. Anyone who collects records knows that picture discs and colour vinyl have improved significantly over the years too.

I appreciate that picture discs are always a bit of a compromise sonically, but they need to fucking work, at some really basic level of functionality, as records. Otherwise why bother? Buy a poster.

The 2017 RSD was just a total dud.

If they plan to release a remaster. 1999 vinyl ltd edition on RSD would make all the sense in the world. This is how you get hardcores to buy two more of everything. I want some of the other RSD releases. I hope it is true!

What are you outraged about today? CNN has not told you yet?

I hear that it's a reissue of the 1 disc Europe version - not a picture disc or coloured vinyl.

The info was given by a very good contact few weeks ago to MILITANT (as we know all is often a reliable person) that a 1999 DELUXE was ready to go + the Article by Troy Carter that unreleased music is ready to be released back in january > i don't see the point why there will be only a release of a remastered vinyl version of 1999 ONLY ??? > but maybe we are wrong?? ??

Who knew that having a clue and curating your back catalogue and getting your shit in order business-wise would be such a great idea? (And this was even before he had his heart attack onstage.)

Yep. It seemed like he would go through moments where he was trying to get his house in order, then would lose interest. It's a damn shame.

Cool! I think that's rare though. I've had a couple dozen over the years. The only one that didn't sound bad was an E.T. soundtrack I got as a kid.
