my wife's been playing since birth pretty much and is qualified/good enough to be a piano tutor - she heard a piano show (it was a jam-like part inbetween 2 songs so she didnt recognise the songs plus she's not a P fan) i was playing and asked who it was and thought it was amazing. .

People seem to forget that Prince's piano chords is what shaped the minneapolis sound. It was NO other sound like that back then. I've ALWAYS prefered his piano playing to his guitar playing and was SO looking forward to seeing him on a tour I had been waiting the majority of my life to see. Prince on the Piano & Microphone tour by his lonesome. He was so underrated as a keyboardist. I've always looked forward to his piano segments in his concerts. The LoveSexy tour ones blew me completely away.
Asked ANY various band members that was his keyboardist on how blown way they was when he showed them his chords like recently Cassandra O'neal. Who said Prince played rings around her and she was a in demand keyboardist for MANY artist.
I don't see how ANYONE can say he wasn't a genius technically as a pianist. When even Rick James STOLE Prince's synthesizers from him when they toured together.Because Prince was a genius at programming presets and had his own sounds programmed into the synthesizers.Then he used them to record his BIGGEST hit album 'Street Songs'. So he must of REALLY liked what Prince did with them. Liberace was a fantastic pianist, of course to the classical purists they hated him because he sold out to glitz rather than focus on his skills. Lib may not have been the very best on the planet but he was damned good, a lot better than his detractors try to say and he was super influential. Unfortunately, because of his silly, flamboyant,campy gay image people don't give him the credit he deserves as an influence, everyone from elvis to prince stole from him. | |

The funny thing for me was the first time I saw Prince live ( PR tour ) I remember saying to everyone how great of a Piano player he was. I was more impressed with that than his guitar playing at the time. It’s very church like in some songs, those chords always give me goosebumps. | |
