Back then it was thought by WEA (WB in Europe) that a double LP by an artist that wasn't famous yet, wasn't going to sell. In Holland, for instance, Prince only had a minor hit with Controversy. So that is why they decided to cut it down to one LP. I wonder did Prince know / approve of the European edit? [Edited 3/9/18 8:49am] That photo with Ana Moura is from February 2016, not RSD two months later. Although he did go back in on RSD, there is no photo. Welcome to "the org", laytonian… come bathe with me.

This is because Bowie had a loving wife, a good lawyer and a WILL! Say what you want, but if Prince had a will, all this shit with his estate would not be going on and it would be long settled and perhaps his true fans would be getting things like this. Some of you are ignorant as to the importance of a will when there is so much at stake.

IDK about Holland but France didn't have issues with profanities or sex in the 80's. https://www.youtube.com/w...L82fWvjMZQ A COMPREHENSIVE PRINCE DISCOGRAPHY (work in progress ^^): https://sites.google.com/...scography/

Two books that are only available in Dutch (Prince de biografie by Alfred Bos & Tom Engelshoven from 1988 and the recent Prince: The Dutch Experience by Edgar Kruize) wrote that the double LP version of 1999 actually was released in Holland on oktober 29, 1982. The single LP was released on march 11, 1983. There was even talk of a Prince/Vanity 6 concert in Amsterdam, but it never happened. Back then, Nasty Girl was a bigger hit over here than 1999 or Little Red Corvette. So it really was a matter of there not being enough interest in Prince...yet... [Edited 3/9/18 14:15pm]

It was a Per Nilsen read. I think I read it in "Prince A Portrait". I would have to pull the book out again.

Seems like this album had many omitting going on smh. I accidentally bought that old 1999 CD as well from a used store and had to buy DMSR on Itunes to make up 4 it. Straight Jacket Funk Affair

There was also a cassette with a different cover art, How Come U Don't Call Me Anymore and a few tracks missing, which was actually my first 1999. I had to buy it again some weeks later to have both versions (that was before the Hits/B-Sides so the first one was worth it for HCUDCMA alone). It will never be opened ??? Really ? Why ? Like, bying a stereo or a sweater or car, and never use it ? To keep it more valuable ? Did you know that album covers remained in plastic get damaged ? All plastic wrappings shrink, check it. You must've seen that already. I for one will never ever buy something that is still in plastic wrapping. As if it is still in mint condition. Bullshit. I can buy a plastic wrapper machine for let's say € 38 / $ 50, wrap up anything really, and lie to you about it never being used.

First of all this isn't a big masses release. It's for record-store day. It's only for stupid aged vinyl collectors like me. WB just wants to grab a few $$. Just like most labels do on that day. - Although some artists are OK with it. For those of you who know DAVID SYLVIAN, there's a new release of his DEAD BEES ON A CAKE album specialy released for that record store day, with 4 extra tracks, and on white vinyl, with all new album cover art done by the great Anton Corbijn, and Chris Bigg i believe... - "The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves. . Painkiller addiction is a leading cause of death in the USA right now. .
. Unknown. It's likely a combination of various factors, e.g. the volume of complaints all over the place, the power of some blogs (SDE,...), perhaps some of Bowie's inner circle receiving complaints directly,... I wouldn't be surprised if "the Bowie business" is a lot more important (both lucrative and prestigious) to WBR than the "Prince business". © Bart Van Hemelen

. RSD has been going on for how long? In all of its history, how often did Prince collaborate of releasing product for that day, and thus actually putting money in the pockets of record store owners? Ah yes, ten years without actually contributing anything. . Or lemme point to the numerous Prince releases that were exclusive deals with chains, i.e. directly attacking local record stores. © Bart Van Hemelen

I don't have the original pressing, how does it stack up? To me the reissue sounds like they used the CD master, which is horrible (in fact all of the protege CDs sound awful). Prince: 1958-infinity. Thank U for everything.

Strive said: Wouldn't make much sense to do a vinyl release of 1999 for Record Store Day if they were planning to do a Deluxe Edition down the road. I know the vinyl re-release of Purple Rain was only the main album but it came out at the same time as the Deluxe Edition. . If the next deluxe edition comes out in June like Purple Rain Deluxe did last year, that would leave two months in between releases. . Still it doesn't make much sense to do a vinyl release of 1999 for RSD period. Bernie Grundman's 2011 remaster is still readily available. But if it's on the list, I ain't gonna dispute it. Maybe there's some type of gimmick like colored vinyl. [Edited 3/3/18 20:52pm] Yeah...no way. It will be years from now
