I’m sure some people will enjoy this, but after the rumours in the last few weeks I was hoping that there would be a more exciting announcement today... oh, well

I am thinking only the original pressings are worth much... "Keep on shilling for Big Pharm!"

This is the strangest choice of reissue ever. What about ANY of the protege albums? The Black Album? The "What Time Is It" reissue last year on green vinyl was brilliant. I too have the original pressing but will still buy to support the record label and estate. [Edited 3/6/18 13:39pm] Prince: 1958-infinity. Thank U for everything.

It should be illegal to remove tracks from this album,lol...I consider it to be Prince’s masterpiece.I would never buy a copy of this album that doesn’t include all the tracks!

Well, to Prince's defence, Bowie knew for quite a while that he was going to die and was able to organize his business and plan a post-mortem release schedule. We cannot presume what Prince would have done if he'd known months in advance that he had a fatal illness. . Ghee, I wonder why it has been unavailable for 35 years. . Couldn't they have just put out a 2xLP of the "From the Vault & Previously Unreleased" disc from last year's Deluxe Edition of Purple Rain? © Bart Van Hemelen

. Because those were pretty pathetic releases as well. Hell, I picked up copies of those when they were re-released in the early 1990s. . Why would anyone buy those way too expensive RSD releases when the originals had been fairly easy to get for decades? There's nothing exclusive about them. © Bart Van Hemelen

. Bowie got his shit sorted out decades ago. He was selling Bowie Bonds in 1997, etc. That's years before his heart attack in 2004, and Bowie then continued to take care of his legacy. . And Prince had a near-death experience on 21 April 1996. He could have easily used the next twenty years to get his shit sorted, but instead he wasted those on baloney. © Bart Van Hemelen

Prince wasn't Bowie and it wasn't Prince job to act like Bowie. If you want to listen to Bowie then listen to Bowie. It was never part of Prince's DNA to spend ages curating his back catalogue so Bartvanhemelen and some nostalgic gen-x'ers could buy the same album over and over again.

Fair enough, Bowie was definitely more down to earth that P I'll give you that. But nevertheless, when it specifically comes to posthumous releases, Bowie did plan it out when he knew he was ill. Prince couldn't. On the other hand, maybe Prince didn't care and, no matter how unfortunate this is for us, you can't blame Prince for not caring. . Prince was in denial about being ill. And I'm sure that by now we're getting Bowie releases that were never discussed in-depth with Bowie. Consider the upset about the recent box set and the fact that the record company actually put out replacement discs: that doesn't sound like Bowie's plan. .
. I'm just pointing to a very simple explanation. Gotta love all the bitching about WBR and the estate when the simple reality is: it's a mess because Prince left a mess. And it didn't need to be. . Though WBR deserve infinite mocking for this pathetic RSD release. Plenty of things that are hard or impossible to obtain on vinyl that they coudl have released instead of this laughable item. . Also note that Prince never could be arsed to support RSD. © Bart Van Hemelen

You can still buy 1999 on vinyl from it's last release right? So this as an RSD exclusive is more interesting imo. Anyone lamenting the loss of tracks on this version, head over to Amazon and buy the full 2LP release.

Back then it was thought by WEA (WB in Europe) that a double LP by an artist that wasn't famous yet, wasn't going to sell. In Holland, for instance, Prince only had a minor hit with Controversy. So that is why they decided to cut it down to one LP.
