Yeah, Prince is as good as the Beatles (and I say this as a fan of both). I think they are comparable in terms of songwriting and innovation. The Beatles were more consistent (probably by virtue of being a group and being able to veto each other's ideas), but I think that Prince's high moments surpass pretty much everyone's.

The Beatles have had a greater impact on music than Prince. The Beatles have maintined a high degree of integrity decades later. Prince is often considered a flake by the general public these days. And adding crap like NewPowerSoul and Rave to his catalog doesn't help.

It probably is unfair to compare the two as they both have done alot 4 the music world and popular culture in general.The Beatles albums and singles were consistantly stronger,but there are less of them,also which it has been mentioned the Beatles worked through things as a group getting the best out of ideas ridding of shit.Prince has had the chance of more influences being an artist 2 decades later but I think that means its harder to make music with as much individuality.I think the Beatles from what ive seen and read were good at communicating with fans and media, which seems to be something Prince aint overly keen or comfortable doin.But singing,dancing,all round musical intrument playing I would have to say P would win hands down.

the amount of excitement the beatles generated before they were even signed (teenagers just mobbing and climbing the cavern club) dwarfs prince's draw at the same stage of his career...

I did not want to start an argument but it looks like I have.
I just love both The Beatles and Prince. The Beatles were not perfect and neither is Prince. When you take chances, not everything you do is great but at least it is not boring. I personally get every penny's worth when I listen to a Prince album or a Beatles album. They have both made cutting edge, great and beautiful music and I am glad to have been able to listen and enjoy them both!

I happen to like Prince's songs a lot more, but thats me. I do think that any honest music lover that knows the work of both can't deny that Prince is a better musician than any member of the Beatles, and a far better live performer.

The beatles make better movies. hell, Stevie wonder could direct a movie better than prince.

Yes, the Beatles had a larger impact on the muscial scene and were more popular. Yes, they took chances with their music as time wore on. However, MUCH of their music is basically bubble-gum pop (a la New Kids on the Block and N'Sync) although they did change later in their career. But, that is how pop music was in the early 60's. I think the Beatles are overrated when compared to Bob Dylan, the Rolling Stones, James Brown, and other artists of their day.

Prince is far more "talented" on any instrument than any other Beatle. He can play ANY of their songs on ANY instrument but the converse is not true. His output easily surpasses theirs as well as his vocal abilities. Further, Prince's dancing and performance abilities outweigh the Beatles.

Finally, as others have noted, being a solo artist versus a group arrangement is another aspect that clouds the comparison.
