Perhaps it was his speech pattern...In some parts I am guessing what he meant , and yes I realise he was usually ambiguous

none of them...he was a master of mystery ... including the almost Houdini esque escape from Earth, at the end...

Maybe not the most revealing, but I feel like he let his guard down a lot in the Mel B. interview. It's a favorite of mine.

The "Too close to it" part is the revealing aspect. I felt he meant he was in a similar place as MJ...Trying to deal with powerful pain killers and it becoming more & more difficlut to control it. Also the other point about self-destruction. His answer to me was that he didn't see his actions as being self-destructive but necessary and then he kind of changes the subject

Have to disagree. I think because of how he passed people are reading all sorts of things into past comments, lyrics etc.

that was my interpretation of it too, Prince would never cop to taking pills in a public interview, so his "to close to it" was a little unclear. too close to what? not mj? or was it, and if so why did he word it like that, MJ was not an it. I uncertainly assumed he meant he was too close to how he felt about Mj, maybe he was uncomfortable grieving but i don't know. it's really a strange statement that doesnt make sense in any context.

I remember reading that Brown Mark said Prince didn't remember that he played Bass.

ya, i remember that but he didn't draw any conclusions from that. or he didn't seem to, he just said something was different whether that meant he had alzheimers, was ill, high or what have you, he doesn't seem to know.
