Here I can't agree.

The P original version is in the same league with the "The Family" Version, and about 20 times better (if not 30 times better) than the P & Rosie Gaines "Las Vegas" rendition included in "The Hits".

I agree, I can’t stand the Hits version.

Even if you can't stand the Hits version. It's at least a version. The Family is just...Noise.

Sorry if this was asked and answered before, but who is the woman talking near the end of 17 Days? The theme is similar to the Computer Blue (poor lonely computer . . .).

At first I thought it was a REALLY bad Prince impersonator, but after a few listens it sounds like maybe it's Brenda?

It is Brenda. I believe the following lyrics are close, if not exact, and that she mispronounces one or two of the words. Not high art, but it explains why she (or her lover) didn't answer the phone:

.

.

No more will I accept your misogynistic macho attitude toward my womanhood.

.

Yes, I can see the fact that you’re beautiful.

.

But my dear— so am I.

.

When will I be able to cut through the celluloid surface that surrounds your world, and make you see this. That is when I guess you’ll see my vagina.

.

As someone else noted before, "Eye Know #1" is a home rehersal live with the band.

Really nice, but still a rehearsal.

"Eye Know #2" instead is a basic mix of the album final version.

It's incredible.

It's not a "rehearsal" per se. Full bands do actually record in the studio. Listen to #1 & #2. It's the same music track, just with different vocals and overdubs. The album version is this same basic track. It's not like P taking a "live" full band take a overdubbing it is unheard of.

Rumeta is the jam music. All 3 versions nuts. It Ain't Over Til the Fat Lady Sings also kicks, sucks they just cut out the 20 sec or so on previous version. I'm a sucker for his instrumentals love. Dig all these songs, Sticky Wicked, Love 89 r rather noisy (also felt this from their released versions), but of course work better (4 me at least) up here. Bang Bang is dope w/ P (was kinda dope anyways), Red Scarlett is bomb, Playtime 2. Thanks ppls smile.

For all time I am with you, you are with me.

"Noise"?!?!?!?!?

"The Family" version is a masterpiece.

An emotional trip, moving and touching, with a wonderful orchestration and a masterful work of vocal joints.

And I know many thinks that the missing of any rhythm track cut down the song, but to me it simply add to the magic of the whole.

Probably you're right, listening again to #2 it is constructed on the bulk of #1.

Anyway, you can say it is a proto-version just listening to Prince vocal intro, it sounds really flat compared to the #2 (and released).

I strongly prefer #2 to #1.

It's freaking weird to hear the intro to 17 Days, all when you're ready for the drum to start it continues to loop that "woaaow, woaaow"sound just a few seconds longer. Haven't gotten used to that yet. And am I the only one who think Brendas speech resembles the computer speech in Computer Blue Hallway Speech". The butterfly part. It's like they're brother and sister songs.

A studio version of Nothing Compares 2 U and a studio version of Electric Intercourse in the same year??!! Didn't think I would ever get to hear these two versions in my life. This Prince version is pure magic and I'm so happy to have it. Thank you to who ever put this in circulation. I will cherish this.

one setlist had it listed as longer but it is the same length as that looped fake... but if they have NC2U maybe they have this too!

I was not aware of the looped one. That would be a massive letdown if that’s what they have. The track list of BOTP6 has it as clocking at 3’10. But as you said, they had NC2U. I always believed that Prince’s vocals had been erased when they were replaced with Paul and Susannah’s, so that’s been a nice little surprise! [Edited 12/4/17 13:51pm]

I have a copy of Cosmic Day that is 3:10. But it is also slowed down considerably, compared to the version (1:49) on this new leak.

I was actually going to ask here, which version is at the correct speed ?! eek

"Red Scarlett" was mentioned 1 time here in 2004 with no replies... still sounds 94/95 ish to me - in fact the lead line is the same as 'Ripopgodazippa', and the rapping style is similar to that era (or even later, like "Strange But True").

Intriguing!

Sounds like 94-95 to my ears also. Nice track.

"It ain't Over 'Till The Fat Lady Sings" sounds like the weird music during Under The Cherry Moon when Tricky is drunk & ranting around the club and has a fight with Christopher. Then the toothy old lady asks him when they can get together again.

"New Position" and "17 Days" - worth it all.

I don't think New Position works that well with the orchestra. Same with Other Here with Us. But interesting to hear nevertheless.

I agree...It's cool to hear...but it NP does not work with the orchestration

Frida Kahlo, Rumeta and Pangea are from the same sessions. Theses tracks are so important, they represent the newest stuff we have from Prince.

All 3 are part of the new minneapolis sound Prince was creating, which started with Baltimore, where he plays the guitar track and has it replaced with orchestration.

Rumeta showcases this perfectly. where prince starts with guitar work, and his guitar work is removed and replaced with orchestration that is a replica of his guitar work. Three versions of Rumeta, it is really amazing to have these 3 tracks, they show EXACTLY what his new process was with recording.

It looks like the next album we were going to get was really going to be something special. The new direction he as going with these tracks was fantastic.

This version of "Nothing Compares 2 U" sounds more like a rehearsal take with overdubs to me. I know that it doesn't disqualify the version from being classified as "a studio version", but I wouldn't jump into calling it "Prince's original version of the song" either. It's comparable to some of the other recent leaks in that sense ("Dear Michaelangelo", comes to mind as the first example).

It took a few listens from me to start liking this version in any case. I prefer my Prince "raw", but with this one a more polished take would work better.
