It's different, but this version has been circulating since early this year.

You are right! It's the same as the one that was leaked a year ago, I completely forgot about that one. The one on BFTP4.0 is the same as the Purple Rain Deluxe version (including W&L). So there are only 2

According to Pvault, Duane has just revealed that Prince arranged and recorded the RRD version on the album with Matt and Bobby. I fail to see why he'd have failed to record vocals, particlarly since Paul was instructed to imitate his vocals to the letter on each song. However Princevault isn't clear on that: they don't mention any later session for Paul's vocal tracks, but fail to indicate that Paul was there when the first recording happened. It's also possible that only an instrumental version was recorded then, or that Bobby provided vocals. In any case a pre-Paul version exists.

Very good point. I remember Prince saying he never gave WB the best stuff. But once he became free of his record contract, why didn't he go and do something with that stuff? He said in 1999 that he was one of the most bootlegged artists, and CB was meant to clean that up a bit. He could have easily cleaned it up a lot more and then some. It seems Prince made music to cure his boredom, rather than actually putting it out and people hearing it and paying him for it. The stories of tapes piling up and rotting away are heartbreaking and frustrating.

And the quality of his stuff from the aughts onward varied greatly. You know it's bad when "Graffiti Bridge" sounds more appealing than half of NewPowerSoul or all of Elixir.

I think you guys forget that if I find all that late career music awesome, Prince probably did, too

Regarding CB-type of collections, consensus is that WB most likely blocked any further WB era vault releases after 2001, this at least is suggested by Alan Leeds once saying that Prince was blocked from releasing any live stuff from the WB years without WB. If it applies to live material, it most likely applies to studio recordings as well. I hope this is cleared one day.

I wonder about River Run Dry--there was a Bobby Z demo according to Duane's book, but he also has an entry for Prince's recording of the basic tracks for the Family (with Bobby on drums and Matt)--but he doesn't say anything about whether there was a guide vocal recorded or who performed the vocal if there was. At least, not that I saw when I went back and looked just now.

I always really liked River Run Dry, actually--even back when I wasn't completely sure what tracks were or were not Prince-related (I always assumed most if not all of the were, but back at release who could really be sure). I mean, it kind of stood out from the others, but I still liked it.

Positivity #1 is my favorite so far. It's finally made my Prince playlist. While I liked the idea of the one on Lovesexy, something about it always rubbed me the wrong way. This one sounds fresh as most Prince tracks usually do.

There is a full ochestral version. Unfortunately Clare Fisher is talking over it. It has been out for a long time.

There's always a big leak before BFTP volumes come out...at this point we should start making fake BFTP lists to get people to leak songs we want.

Grateful these are out, but boy is Eye lazy, for whatever reason, a lot of the older tunes have pitch issues, it is literally out of tune. I had to re-pitch 75% of these songs to get them in tune where they were intended to be. The newer songs dont really have an issue, but the older ones are all over the place. It really would not have taken much time for Eye to do this.

Just heard the 3 "Sister" outtakes. On that last one, when he goes "DSCHOO DSCHOO DSCHOO DSCHOO!" to start the instrumental version is just so great. I loive picturing a 17- or 18-year-old Prince going "DSCHOO DSCHOO DSCHOO DSCHOO!"

No copy, just the same files that were dumped online recently that everyone is talking about here. I am assuming what was dumped online was a rip from the CD no?
