Really enjoying it so far, on the Carolina concert at the moment, which to me sounds better than the previous concert. Alot of fun listening to Prince so young but still fantastic! And the band are great too, some things never change! A bit weird how his speaking voice has changed from when he was young till later.

I love the 1st Avenue show!
"All The Critics Love U" is so cool!
Btw:
Dr. Fink starts his keyboard solo at minute 6.30.
At 6.48 he quotes himself (plays a short part of his "Head"-solo).
And then (minute 7.00) he seems to quote Frank Zappa ("Keep It Greasy")...
Great!

I think they just did the old trick of adding the only known copy of The Second Coming to all the shows that were missing it. I think the same thing happened with the City Lights boxset.

Mono or fake stereo or whatever, to finally hear a really good quality version of that early live take on All the Critics at First Avenue is marvellous. That'd go on a career-spanning boxset if I ever put one together.

(I mean, obviously it'd be a disaster on everyone's part if I was asked to put one together but I just really love this take of it).

God yes, I've listened to that performance so much recently.

Really enjoying this, the live shows are incredible! In addition, the Linn drum rehearsal is a total treat, decidedly psychedelic in nature...the jam on Lisa = eek

As much as I'm enjoying the shows, at the same time, it's so sad thinking he's no longer alive, performing, working in the studio, it's such a loss.

I totally agree with the whole set of "The Second Coming" and your comments about "All The Critics Love U In New York" : insance keyboard playing and nasty guitar through all the song...

probably going to be one of my favorite version...

this show (One-Off Performance at First Avenue | Minneapolis, MN | USA | 8 March 1982) sounds special:

do they have some mike problems ?

for instance the intro of each song is twice longer than the usual (if I comparing to the other 82 shows, but this one was probably special) :

- we got an instrumental of "You Were Mine" which was probably not intended to- but it sounds GREAT as an instrumental...

- "Head" (I was also so fond of Lisa that I can't get tired of all these live versions)... well, was this a censored version or was the "virgin" word (and some other lyrics) deliberated omitted because due to the context with Prince and Lisa the lyrics have somehow to be revised ? (we can hear Lisa near burst of laughing when she has to sing the first verse)

you know what, with the running-electric-guitar of the soundcheck "I could die 4 U" and the sound of "When You Were Mine" it reminds me somehow Joy Division raw-guitar sound and bass... but less tragic... (just listening to the guitar solo of soundcheck "I could Die 4 U" this sounds very Ian Curtis-Joy Division era...)

but don't underrate the other set : the Billy Preston-Outta Space-like solo on the first show is such a bliss...

the 2 first shows are jaw-dropping...

There was an instrumental version of Purple Rain as early as 1982? Wow, I didn't know that...

No way is it from 82. Prince calls out "wally!" during Lisa, and i dont think he was around in 82.

Its just lazy guesswork by the bootleggers, but eh a bootleg should always have a few errors, just look at purple rain deluxe

Listening to it now, this is no less than amazing IMHO. Prince tripping on the mic and keys, God! What I wouldn't give for more recordings like that!

When would you date it from if not 82? There's even an uncredited bit of Possessive/My Love Belongs 2 U at the end of Katrina. I find it had to date because with Lisa supposedly being from 1980 and Katrina supposedly from March 1983, it could potentially be from anywhere in that time frame. I don't remember (admitting I ever knew it) when exactly Wally entered the picture.

I would say its from 83 possibly early 84.

Not that this helps disprove my theory that its not 82, but incidently, u can just make out during "something in the water" that hes playing along to the finished studio version (u can just about hear some of it bleeding through), which was recorded april 82, so its definately not from before that date

Bitch this ain't the movies

20+ years ago I bought Moonraker's version of the First Avenue 1982 show. It was an upgrade from a previous version I had, but still, the quality was far below what we have here and so, I haven't listened to it much. This version is a revelation. What a cool show to finally have a decent soundboard recording from!! music

My review for The Second Coming even i'm still have things to listen:

*Soundcheck SF: great sound, I like it. Nothing special to say, just as you I'm surprised to know that IWD4U was already written at that time.

*First Avenue 82': I'm so happy because the sound is great. Sexuality & the intermission between The Stick/Partyup is not cut. The only drawback is that Partyup is fading.....

I haven't even listened to the whole set yet, much less Foefur's versions, so I couldn't really say yet.

Sabotage has a few new releases too, but they're not as exciting.

Transcendence - an "upgrade" of Toronto 2016-03-25

Xpectation Remastered - a pirate release of official material

Trojan Horse Remastered - the classic show from 1988 with the feedback removed "with a specific digital audio retouching tool"

There were so many boots released while he was with us, I doubt fear of prosecution has anything to do with it.

TL;DR Holy shit
