sigh..2 more cents about Prince and JW

I am not "bugged" because of how the JW doctrine affects Prince the man-I am "bugged" by how it affects Prince's art. The man and the art are closely linked and so, although I don't normally give 2 craps about a persons beliefs, this case is different. I am happy for the man because it seems as if he found the ladder he was looking for. However, imagine if Ali's religion would have forced him to quit punching as hard in the ring-fans would be buggin'. Just like we are.

Interesting. I like that.

However, I would like to add, that even though the message is different within his music, I still say it's just as thoughtful and well made as ever.

Now many of you disagree with me on this, but that also doesn't matter. Because those of you who think his music is crap today, probably also thought it was crap 6-8 years ago, before he was a JW. In other words, JW changed the message, but not the music. Whatever you think of his music, I don't really think you can blame it on the religion. Although, naturally, the lyrics in the music have changed. If THAT is what bothers you though, than you are "bugged" because of how the JW doctrine affects Prince the man, because his lyrics reflect the man.

I'll admit, it bugs me.

He had to change what his songs were about or otherwise he would simply be a hypocrite.

Every man has the right to decide on his own future.
If you do not like it; move on.

Who am I to tell you this? The next concert I'll visit I'll wear my blood donor drive t-shirt, just to make a point.

"Leave that blood alone." Not as long as it saves lives.

It not only changed his music. It changed everything

The free flowing music unique to the Friday nite jams has been diverted elsewhere. If in fact, this is truly Prince's "choice" then that's fine. But what has happened to the spontaneous energy of this man now that JW standards are imposed on his creativity? As for me, a fan, it just feels like something's missing.

... and another view from another fan:

I don't like this JW crap and I try to ignore it as much as I can.

Nevertheless, since he has "something to say" again (and even if it's that JW stuff), he has become my "old" Prince again without missing something:

- finally a great album (TRC) again
- finally a great tour again with NEW songs (hated that "I had a lot of hits in the 80'ies" tours of the previous years)
- finally an appropriate way to get older in the showbusiness
