The new Purple Rain Sessions Book: Any new, previously unknown tracks?? From the new book by Duane T., does anyone know if they are PR era tunes not previously known or captured by TheVault??

I say buy it and see for yourself. Duane's effort needs encouragement, he's put an incredible amount of work over the years on this project (it was first mentionned what? 8 years ago maybe?) and if the book doesn't sell, it's unlikely there will be another. Not to say your thread is irrelevant or anything, of course the book's content needs to, and will be discussed (and Princevault updated accordingly, I guess), but I just wanted to say let's support it. A COMPREHENSIVE PRINCE DISCOGRAPHY (work in progress ^^): https://sites.google.com/...scography/

We put together The Vault about 16-17 years ago with as much information as we had at the time. To give you a little perspective, the section in that book about this time period (1983/84) is about a dozen pages. This book is over 500 pages long.
The recording information in The Vault (and our work in Uptown Magzine) was based on the Sunset Sound work orders and some great interviews. Since then, a lot of additional information has poured in from the WB vault, union session notes, the Library of Congress, personal journals/diaries and dozens of new and exclusive interviews (as well as countless public interviews and documentaries that have surfaced over the last decade and a half). I love The Vault and it is still one of the things I'm most proud of being associated with (I helped research it), but this book is very different because it focuses only on a 2 year period of his career, but it does it in a way that has never been attemped before - by seeing his life through what he was recording in the studio, and why he was recording it.
There are new songs discussed (as well as those that were only know by their titles) that are detailed such as "Moral Majority," "Promise 2 B True" and a track called "I Am Fine" among others. There is information about the recording of Vanity 6's second album and additional details about many of the songs released on the PR deluxe CD set.
The fun thing to me was revealing how the songs reflect his place in life and in context with what is going on in his world. There are a lot of new stories told by the people who were in the room with him while he was recording the songs on Purple Rain, ATWIAD, The Family, Sheila's 1st album, Jill Jones' album, Apollonia 6, Vanity 6, and others as well as his b-sides and outtakes and additional tracks for Sheena Easton, The Bangles and Stevie Nicks.
If the book is a success, I'd love to write another one. Imagine a 2nd book that covers 1985/86 which includes Parade, SOTT, Dream Factory, Crystal Ball, Madhouse, The Flesh, Sheila's 2nd/3rd albums, and all of the outtakes from that period!
Thank you for the support for this project. Book 1 comes out in about 2 weeks and I can't wait to hear your thoughts. The expanded version of my book PRINCE and The Purple Rain Era Studio Sessions 1983-1984 was released in November 2018. I am really looking forward to this book. I;ve ordered from Amazon UK but they have the release date as 01/01/2018, which is disappointing.

Amazon will sometimes use a placeholder date, so it's possilbe that the book may release in the UK before that. Or mayne that's just when it comes out here. RIP

Duane, I've heard you on a couple of podcasts recently which has really got me looking forward to your book. . I have it on pre-order but for the UK it has a release date of 1st January (and patience isn't one my virtues) so I'm wondering if it'll be available to buy on iBooks in 2 weeks? I still want the physical book but iBooks is also practical for me when I'm travelling to read on my phone or iPad. . I wish you success as I'm really hoping for a 2nd covering SOTT etc

oddly enough, the UK amazon site has a lower price but later release date (maybe through a british publisher?), but the German amazon site has the same date as the US and roughly the same price. . I'm still torn though. I will definitely get the book, most likely more than once (I also want it on my ereader so I always have it available with me as a reference), but I don't know yet where to get it. I'm inclined to get in a brick & mortar store, to encourage them to get this book in their shops. It'll be generating more sales, I think. At the same time, it means I might have it a few days later (and I've been waiting for a long time). . Also, I don't want a kindle book, I want epub. I am not demanding, what makes you say that? . What it comes down to though, I will read this book and spend money on it. More importantly, what else can I do to encourage Duane to write the next book (and the next, and the next.... etc, and the previous!)? . Duane, do you want to start a kickstarter campaign or similar for the next book? What would it take for you to continue this? [Edited 11/3/17 2:31am] Paisley Park is in your heart - Love Is Here!
