if they add all of those wilderness years albums to platforms at once
i doubt any of them will become favourites for non hardcore fans as
there are simply too many albums.

the only way to introduce them to a larger public is if they follow the
80s and well known 90s albums in a rerelease extended remaster sort
of project.

that way the classic albums will trickle out with added material and in
a natural chronoligic order the non warners albums will be released in
the same format, with bonus material for the hardcore fans and serve
as a steady stream of 'new' material for people who really only know
his songs up to TMBGITW.

that's what i'd like to see anyway. i don't want more compilation discs
or best off or whatevers, since they serve no real purpose for us actual
fans. i don't really care what the public at large want

plus the public at large will likely ignore such releases anyway since in
their eyes they already have the few classic albums like PR and 1999,
and don't know or care about the later songs. as nice as such releases
might be on paper, i don't think they will attract many new people or
even get that many spins from casual fans anymore.

Disagree. Get some decent promotion behind it and it could do well. Should’ve worked on this instead of that stupid 4Ever album.

well now that i do agree with! that was the right time to release something else for the
mass public and they might have been ready for it. there were already enough hits and
best off releases to satisfy the demand so the 4Ever release could have included many
lesser known songs or just focussed on the latter part of his carreer entirely.

but amonst other reasons i guess sorting out publishing rights for the songs released
under different record companies and completely npg solo, was probably to daunting of
a task for the quick moneygrab release that 4Ever was. i still don't believe 100% that
the release was prince approved like they've been saying. i don't know.

spotify does have an 'undiscovered prince' playlist though, which has
a few more obscure releases from the 90s on it, although only from
the very few post 1993 albums that are on spotify, naturally.

Between The Hits/The B-Sides and 4Ever, we've had more than enough sets spanning his career. His later stuff really isn't single-worthy, and a compilation of that stuff would be worthless, IMO, as far as a sellable retain item.

I would mostly include the singles, simple as that.

I think a lot of thought needs to go into what versions of tracks are included if it's to be any good. A really good boxset telling the story from 1993/4 to 2016 could be truly, truly excellent but would need a lot of research and selection.

A singles only collection would be decent as well as pure representation of what P thought were his most commercial tracks (and, lets be honest, was mostly wrong about).

This kind of release has zero value to me.

They need to concentrate on the vault material first and foremost.

Yeah, I made the decision to not include ANY B-sides because it comes down to what would I leave off in PLACE of the B-side? I wanted Erotic City, 17 Days and She's Always In My Hair on there, but then something else would have to go to make room, and I just didn't see that happening. As it was, I edited a few tracks here and there to make room for more total songs. Automatic and D.M.S.R in particular I feel work rather well as edits. Obviously there are folks who'll disagree with the practise of editing, but if it made room to include even more songs, and the edits weren't jarring (which they weren't), I went for it.

The Beautiful Ones... Another song I desparately wanted to include, which is why I used the version from 'One Nite Alone...Live', just so the SONG is on there somewhere. The shortest disc here is 78:59, so there really wasn't any room to include more music. Everybody has their own ideas on what constitutes a "Best Of" for Prince, and this is mine. BTW, I particularly LOVE the last two discs. He really was on a creative roll the last twelve years or so of his life, and those two discs in particular have one really strong song after another. But I always get sad at the end of 'June' (the last song).
