Did Prince wear wigs in the 80s and 90s?

In 1986, Prince had a short, cropped hairdo - a look that he debuted in his "Around The World in 80 Days" and "Parade" eras.

Then in 1987, for the "Sign O The Times" era, he had a long, hippy hairstyle. This continued onto the "LoveSexy", "Batman" and "Grafitti Bridge" eras (1988-1990).

Is it safe to say he was wearing a wig or some sort of hair piece in 1987-1990? Hair doesn't grow that long under a year, yeah?

No I think it was natural.

.

Prince cut his hair real short in Sep/Oct 1985 through filming Under the Cherry Moon and kept it cut short through to April /July 1986. However after Sheridan on July 1st, it is getting longer and by early October there is enough for a mullet (It was already getting longer and bushier by the Parade tour in August - Girls and Boys Covershot etc).

.

By early 1987 it is longer, but not really long, he permed and blow waved it abit for the sign o the times look. In 1988 it was naturally long and remained quite long in 1989/1990, he kept it straight and that is why you all may be suspicious, it is possible his hair was quite straight or easily conked anyway (Dirty Mind and late 90s era). He may have sculpted it for the partyman and scandalous videos and merely done partial cuts to keep it neat. He had long hair but never like past his shoulders much, not like waist length. He styled it more on the top from early 1991 onwards. Prince loved his hair and I think he took great care of it.

.

Even in 1991, all he did was tie it up in that doo rag and piled it up on his head. His hair was trimmed below in late 1992/93 early act tour by the look of the thing.

.

Looking at his hair, it was just one more prop in that show we call Prince. His hair like every other part of his body, his clothes, his music, his instruments, his players, his business, his money and his women were all there under his control.

.

I only think he possibly had a wig with the afro as it never really changed at all in the alst 2 years of his life. And yet I know a lot of people think the afro was real.

He may have cut his hair long before Sep/Oct 85. I seem to remember reading somewhere that for Purple Rain, at somepoint after initial photography had been completed, they came back and asked that he re-shoot some sequences. The problem was that he'd already cut his hair, so they had to fit him with a wig to do the re-shoots.

He tried to dye his hair blonde after Purple Rain but it reacted badly to the colour so he had to cut it out (according to Steve Parke's book). That's why Prince has blonde hair on the Around The World In A Day cover.

The shortest I've seen Prince's hair is in the 4 Tears In Your Eyes video and in this photo of him arriving for the Oscars after party:

I got two sides... and they're both friends.

Looks like a wig to me. I think he started that look in 2011-2012? That's a lot of hair to slick back even if you applied two full drums of coconut oil, Dudley's hair grease, lard and transmission fluid. Here's a picture of him in church in 2015 , I think. Where's the fro?

—I think he was wearing a wig or had pieces put in because when he first went public with fro on the view it did not look right. It also seemed to grow amazing quick and it looked too different from when he was young. I know I have the same texture I had when I was young. His hair looked like it was a whole another texture.

I remember when I was telling everyone that Steve Harvey was wearing a piece. They couldn't believe it.

Until the truth comes out, I'm going to go by what was told to me by various people and by Tyka's statements (which seem to indirectly corroberate with what I was told in 2016). Around 2012, when he cut his hair and grew his fro the first time, it was not only to match Andy, but for other reasons. Toward the end, starting toward the tail end of 2014 (AOA time), I was told that he was wearing wigs, especially toward the very end, for reasons hinted at in previous posts.

Possibly hey, as his hair was real short for that Tears in your eyes video from April 1985, but he may have grown it out Apr - Sep 1985, a lot of hair can grow in 6 months.

.

Plus in that America video, he has that turban on, is there hair behind it? I have always been puzzled as UTCM was filmed Sep - Nov and his hair is way short there. I know it was short in September, as there is a scene on the deck of the club CT plays in and the sun shadow is about 45 degrees above the horizon. Nice is at 43 degrees north, the sun can not be that high in the sky after late September, by November it has dropped to barely 27 degrees in the sky.

.

Prince and astronomy the perfect mix.

Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name

Maybe the article is from 2012 about kingdom hall but the picture is much older i remember that picture from 10 years ago.

i don't think that afro was a wig.if PRINCE decided

to wear a wig would you think he would be that obvious ?>

I know that people cant accept that Prince died because

he become an addict because of his hip pain and his refusal to do a hip surgery.

Tyka can say whatever now but i dont think Prince was tight with her at all.

I'd disagree with that, Laura, lol - most hairdressers these days can't wait to discuss (and sell you) various extensions, pieces, etc. It's quite an art fitting and styling them, you know - they do all sorts of training, promotions, exhibitions, competitions around wigs and they can't wait to show you the ones they / their clients are using...At least that's my experience at the salon I visit!
.
Having said that, I guess Ms Berry might have her reasons for not admitting to P wearing wigs - reasons which may have been intimated above. I expect we'll find out soon enough...

No, I mean she would not tell the public. She would not have a problem with getting him a wig. I just do not think she would tell the world he was wearing one. Remember she has other clients.
