NPG Music Club Ahdio Shows - Favorite Song or Moment

What a great way to spend a day! I put all the shows on shuffle while at work, and had my own funky radio station, straight from the source! If you have time, listen to this (it will take hours), and maybe something will stand out that you'll gravitate to. This is my choice, it's from show # 5:

Heaven Must Be Near - Ingrid Chavez

So, question to you, what is your favorite song or moment from these incredible shows?

In the words of Prince himself: "Do me a favor & take care of each other alright? It don't matter the color, we are all family" fallinluv

There was a live clip of Automatic / Dance Electric that I clipped and kept for my own use, I still have it and love it

Probably the Rebirth Of The Flesh rehearsal. I can't remember much about them tbh and I've not listened to them in an age. The later shows were better because they were just like continuous mixtape type things without all the daft segues spoiling the flow.

Deer Nuts vs. Beer Nuts. That was hilarious.

The Stick. It was loud and he was playing his base in the background. Funkiest song ever made even funker.

"Jukebox with a Heartbeat" - I thought that was a fun little song and it was truly orphaned. It only popped up on one of the shows and I clipped it out to listen to as a stand-alone track.

Check out The Mountains and the Sea, a Prince podcast by yours truly and my wife. More info at https://www.facebook.com/TMATSPodcast/

Came here to post this one. JBWAHB is awesome. I'd never heard it before.

I need to get these--I've still never heard 'em after all these years... Would be brand new to me. wink And, yes, I've been a Prince fan since the early 80s... lol

It was not on a NPG Ahdio Show.

I never noticed the bass being different but there's an additional keyboard hook on the chorus as well.

They're filled with gems: unreleased tracks, unreleased live cuts, unreleased mixes... (check my discog site in 2001 for a full list), you raelly oughta shoulda get'em.

Adding-up the Ahdio Show's unreleased material and the individual tracks and videos, NPGMC Year 1 basically gave us an album's worth of new material every month! Being a premium member, I was in purple heaven back then biggrin Very unfortunate that it wouldn't last but restrospectively it made sense: with his busy schedule Prince couldn't possibly dig the vault every month for new tracks, let alone make a new Ahdio show every month for years and years. The last few months' ahdio shows are lazier and already show that he was getting bored with having to do it. And there's also the fact that apparently, Prince wasn't theorically supposed to publish unreleased WB-era tracks without the label's involvement (if true, he already cheated a lot lol ): without access to the first 18 years or so of vault material, it made the available selection quite limited on the long run.

But if anything, NPGMC Year 1 shows that the estate could easily spoil us with an online store, and I'm glad Sharon said they're seriously considering that option!

I have these in many formats and do like to reminisce on occasion.

One of my favorites was the one where Tony Lemans "Higher Than High" was played...love that song.

The show he put out after 9/11 was my favorite, with Pearls B4 The Swine, and other more spiritually oriented songs.

Having them in anything other than low bitrate Mp3's is a waste of disc space. I've seen FLAC and "high quality" 320 kbps downloads and "remastered" versions of these on certain sites in the past which is bollocks. The original downloads were low bitrate, even for 2001.

It looks like it's listed as the "updated version" on that one, and it's great! It's on NPG Ahdio Show: Transmission #9 guitar

The audio shows were cool and I'm happy I managed to burn them all to CD. Turned me on to several tracks I never heard before. "The Stick" for one. Someone said "Rebirth of the Flesh" wasn't on the NPGMC shows but I seem to remember that it was.

It wasn't, it was an individual file.

My recollection is that they varied between 128, 160 and 192. And would take around 8 hrs to download the 60mb file!

Yes, but the tracklist was made by fans, not delivered by NPGMC with the show itself. Therefore, certain titles are unverified and/or unofficial.

Thank you databank, I'm "ok" with an unofficial track list, as long as we get one. I wonder how "The Stick" got labeled as "updated version" on the unofficial track list? hmmm

Princevault wanted to be practical and indicate alternate versions. I list them too on my site.
