One thing that makes me miss him so much is the incredible respect he gets from everyone I meet.

For many years if you mentioned Prince, you got "Oh that weird guy. Isn't he gay?"

But now, almost without exception, what you get it "Man, was he ever incredibly talented. That guy could do everything".

That kind of acceptance makes me miss him a lot.

Which brings us back to the old joke re: The Arts, What does an artist have to do to be appreciated? - die. Not alway true I know. Many have been acknowledged in their own lifetimes but not nearly enough, and pure luck.

Feeling him in our lives is special, and an invigorating lasting gift. That is how it is starting to play out for me, hard won. prince eye chair

I see, but doesn't it grow?
That's what is so fucking invigorating to me.
Cuz it still hurts, I hang on 2 my soul,
and... I can't quite explain it.

With SKipper, I fuck Death.
We fuck it deep in the ass, me and my big brother, damn sure, Christopher.
I mean, wasn't it the whole point?

Just the thought of it is enough.
That's what recorded music is there for.
The moment is recorded.

This is the effort SKipper asks of the listener, me and U.
He fucking earned it.
We just happened to understand the moment of each second passing by
while he was there, singing in between the whole of us.

I'm getting religious and shit.
Since the purple motorbiker was winking at me in the white and purple metro hall implying
the rock'n'roller always gets the girl (I was just twelveteen and all hormones,
my cousin was fourteen and blonde and alone).

The Man was no bullshit. It was so damn obvious.
So if the guy ain't phony up to THAT point,
all of his spiritual side may as well not be all bullshit,
darkest side included.
It's serious stuff.

I owe SKipper countless reflections on life, inner secret discussions about gender equalities,
years before I even experience what a couple is or means.
I owe him hypnosis and countless nights of wonder, in the black,
under the sheets, and Parade's tape was going back, and forth.
The only button my walkman ever needed was "PLAY".

I absolutely ain't ashamed to have a mentor like him.
I'm so fucking proud.
Ladies and Gents, the funnier, most talented, love addict you can get for the money.
Selling of your Soul is not required.

I never was ashamed of Prince, it got me combative 4 my ideas and the walls of my high schools,
they kept the echo of my voice defending him from insult — worse, from somebody so dumb to think some words may serve as —
until the last brick.

Narrow viewers. Tourists.Philistines! biggrin
99 flowers, let'em buried face down, please.
Man I'm pissed.

And they are the ones who come back and tell us they were wrong,
because these are people with which we share a love for music in the first place,
otherwise the discussion wouldn't have happened.

We won the war after losing all the battles, what can I say.

Just yesterday, I casually put D.M.S.R. in a french café
where kabyles granpas stare in the blank full o'wine
(but after five minutes they humming and nodding),
where young Versaillais (A.O.C.) come s'encannailler la bourgeoisie,
with an open DJ booth (the café's DJ booth in question being a hanging loose audio cable
which you can plug your phone into (in absolute anarchy, amidst short catfights, swearings and discoveries).

You can actually watch (wow) your sound climbing up to a big fat amplificator (one volume know per speaker, dual circuit),
consequently flowing in a big fat stereo EQ (left-right indipendent sets of faders — and that's a political statement),
eventually pouring outtova pair of decent JBL Control One.
Actually, The café in question is pretty fucking small.

D.M.S.R. was a blast. I had several friends come to me saying
they never heard the song, and that it was the shit.
Even unknowns. What does that tell me now?

We just got him faster, maybe we just get it faster in general?
oh, I dunno, I wouldn't brag.
Not now I knew him.

And I still do.
No reason to brag about it.

All I ever learned, was
"I ain't afraid of shit."
— Christopher Tracy

and the echo of my laughters at the bats scene in an empty theater in 1986 is what reminds me,
in an odd and kinda shameful way, butt naked way, that
with love there is no death

Not saying U ain't gonna shit yo pants.

This is too noisy and lo def. I'm trying to salvage it.
Sadly I can get any sharper than this, otherwise I'll burn it.
What is needed is a hi-def scan of the music sheets book, or the poster.

As you can see there were some more hair under the hat! The wonder of Photoshop...
I'll link it when it's done. Should be printable in hi-def around 20x20 cm (the lesser the best definition) without being too noisy, I don't think you can push it to a vynil size, it's problematic when you go from lo-def to hi-def.

I remember this picture from the musical sheets book of Parade.
I was trying to memorize the whole shit, reading in the Music Stow, cuz I didn't have the money to bring it home.

The last two weeks--attending a George Clinton concert and looking forward to Bootsy Collins' new album in the mail. I was talking to someone today about how Prince passed away so young and yet some of the older funksters that influenced him and/or worked with him are still around, performing, and putting out new music--which is wonderful but makes me extra sad sometimes still that the younger musical brother is gone... sad

I miss the anticipation of what's "coming soon". At any given point, you just knew Prince was out there cooking up some funk and was making plans for his next album, tour, associated artist project, some epic TV performance, .... always something. I miss that so much sad

The music, when I find a bootleg, protegee track, even a new image of Prince it is bittersweet as I know the amount is now finite and not growing.

I miss the reassurance of knowing Prince is out there doing what he did better than anybody, making Prince music or even that he is out there enjoying life's splendor.

I miss the opportunity to read his autobiography complete, see clips of him playing basketball and finally.

I miss the critical and popular comeback that he would have made, enjoyed and experienced while still living that one last time.

Watching videos like this and seeing the love from the crowd. I think some of the best 3EG shows were in smaller clubs vs. arenas.

I had the thought in the middle of the night (or the recognition actually) that Prince was very, very strong. He had real leadership qualities.

Thanks for the FB post. They are the best. Um who was the girl that was singing "Paisley Park" in the 2nd video? I thought it was Katt Graham and when I look closely it's clearly not her and I don't think it's Beverly Knight so who she?

2 things.

.

1. New Albums and the discussions and interchanges they bring, the anticipation of new music and being able to compare the new album to everything else. We know we are not going to get another Purple Rain or Sign o the Times, but every new album had at least 1 really interesting track and or a new classic to add to his cannon.

.

2. Tours - Prince doing another tour and hoping he may include your location on the itinerary.

Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name

timeout Thanks to his recording habits we could still have chances for (1) to happen!

I never got to see him live. I never really had the chance to do so since he didn't come to Philly in the past 5 years, and when he came to Seattle back in 2002, I wasn't much of a fan of his yet.

.

I miss him also because I think he would have written some really powerful music about the state of the world right now.

.

The Super Bowl in 2018 in February will be in Minneapolis, and I would love to see him sitting in a suite at US Bank Stadium and giving the halftime performer the look of "Good luck trying to top my Super Bowl halftime performance."

Honestly I think if he was still here he might have been selected to do the halftime show again. Fingers crossed the Vikings can find their way to the Super Bowl. Though it would be bitter sweet since he isn’t here to see it. sad
