What makes you miss Prince today? This is a thread for people to post random things they come across in daily life (video, photos, articles, interviews etc.) that really make them miss Prince. For me it was two videos I saw on FB yesterday. I especially got misty eyed in the second video where he asks the audience if they would come see him at his house. https://www.facebook.com/...tion=group https://www.facebook.com/...tion=group Paisley Park is in your heart

When I read the thread asking if Prince had only written 50 pages of his memoir before he died. I was especially looking forward to reading this book, from the minute it was announced. It saddens me to know that we will never see the finished book from him. I think it would have been an impactful book, since we know Prince didn’t do anything half-assed, and it would have added even more cachet to an already stellar career. It probably would have had the success of other rock star memoirs such as Keith Richards’ ‘Life’. Thinking about this made me miss him the other day.

If there's one thing Prince did do half assed, it was books. I would have bought it but am not convinced it would have been anything like as detailed and tell all as some other stars memoirs. RIP

Driving my Son to school this morning, we were bumping some Prince, as we do on MOST mornings. It was a beautiful, clear, cool morning... and I look over and he's just grinning, jamming out. "I love these songs so much, Dad..." and it breaks my heart all over again that he never had the pleasure of seeing him live. I Love U, But I Don't Trust U Anymore...

The state of the world, period. I long for times when things weren't perfect, but a lot better. Those were the years Prince was on earth. I am just glad they he didn't have to come into this with us, and that he lived during the end of the good times.

Objectively, the state of the world has never been that good for humans ever since they've appeared on this Earth 200,000 or so years ago. I'm not sure what worries you but it's in fact pretty likely that good times haven't even started yet. People from the 22nd Century will probably wonder how we coped with the world as it was at the turn of the millenium, in a way that may be similar to how we wonder how people managed to cope with the world as it was in the Middle Ages. I've just read this actually right before reading your post, maybe it'll lift your spirit https://singularityhub.com/2017/10/12/why-the-world-is-still-better-than-you-think-new-evidence-for-abundance/ A COMPREHENSIVE PRINCE DISCOGRAPHY (work in progress ^^): https://sites.google.com/...scography/

What I miss the most is being regularly treated with a new Prince album. Regardless of what comes out of the vault, legally or otherwise, the story's over. No vault release will ever be like a new album to me. I'd been growing alongside Prince's music for 27 years, each chapter of my life from 1989 to 2016 is associated with its contemporary Prince album. Prince's music and lyrics were like a friend who walked by my side through the path of life. Now I have to continue my journey alone, and I regret it deeply. I have a lots of people in my life, of course, but it's not the same: Prince's work was like an imaginary friend of sorts... That segment of the episode was depressing as hell. I mainly get by by pretending he's on an extended hiatus. That works some times.

All the beautiful photos I see of him every day on facebook being shared. My phone is clogged up with screen grabs of them all. Walking in to work and seeing his face on the walls of the offices I work at. (I work in magazines and they have the Q magazine tribute cover on the walls) I quielty say good morning & good night to him every time i pass & I pray they never take it down. The fact I will never get the amazing buzz of seeing him live in concert again. I often listen to his screams in songs with my ear on the speaker, but I just can't seem to hear it loud enough anymore. And the realisation there will never be no one like him again. Ever!

I don't know why you need to be so agressive... . Most of your points regard ecological and climatic issues and I certainly won't deny how serious and alarming those are. I nevertheless have faith in the humankind to solve them before it's too late. I am aware of certain, serious pending issues such as climatic refugeed but I do not believe in armageddon scenarios. I'll admit that this is preoccupying, though, but I also believe progress can be, and is being made on those fronts. . Regarding the toxicity of food I also find it preoccupying, that is the chemical poison spreaded on crops, since I am not aware of any element proving any toxicity in genetically engeneered food. This is a battle that has be be led on the legal front and thankfully it seems there is a growing awareness on those issues, at elast in Europe. I'll add that we are on the verge of spectacular progresses regarding cancer treatments, so whatever harm has or will be done can hopefully be undone to some extent (but of course I am not saying that being able to cure people from disease is an excuse to give them said disease in the first place). . I am aware of the transhumanist project and for the most part support it very actively. I dreamt of things such as this long before I knew of the word transhumanism, or the Silicon Valley even existed. So basically what's going now is not something I was sold to, but more the realization of dreams I had been having since as far as I can remember. I do not have problems with elites coming-up with new ideas. I do not have a problem with elites. I believe elites serve a purpose in every society. For one thing, they have been at the root of every revolution and social progress as far as we can tell. . The argument saying that new technologies are bad because not everyone will be able to afford them is the most ridiculous argument ever made regarding new technologies, and for 2 reasons. One is that if, say, 3 people out of 4 cannot afford to be treated for, say, AIDS, it doesn't mean that it would be wrong to treat the fourth person. Or to put it another way, just because not everyone can afford a computer doesn't mean everyone should be forbidden to own one, or that computers should never have been createrd in the first place. The other is that all technologies, as long as there's a market for them, tend to become cheaper as they spread. You may remember the days when owning a VCR was an eccentric luxury for very rich people. 15 years later, everyone owned a VCR. I do not believe any of those technologies being developped to be meant to be only for some sort of Silicon Valley elite, they will spread, as all technologies have so far. . As for AI and its potential dangers, it's a topic I follow very closely. I believe the technology has to be monitored and the danger is to be taken seriously. It doesn't mean we shouldn't develop the technology. To be honest, from the potentialities of reversing the aging process or uploading our consciousness to computers to the potentiality of AI becoming sentient, I find the future so vertiginously uncertain that I agree it can be scary, because we just have no idea of what the mere words "being human" will mean in 150 years, and this is vertiginous, not to mention the fact that it's too early to really understand what new challenges may be waiting for us. Nevertheless, I am excited about all those prospects because I was never satisfied, ever since early childhood, with the human condition as we know it, so I hope we can one day transcend it. I do not believe any of this has to be in conflict with a spiritual attitude or any religious beliefs, as Prince and many others may have suggested. On the contrary. I am also much interested in Buddhist philosophies and meditation techniques among other things. . In the end I believe it is important to have people like you reminding us of the many dangers ahead, and that it's good to remain vigilant. It doesn't change anything to the fact that never, in human history, have such a great number of humans enjoyed things such as: - Political freedom and freedom of speech - Protection of their individual rights guaranteed - No first-hand experience of war in their lifetime - Education, alphabetization and access to knowledge - Food and drinkeable water in abundance - Knowledge of hygiene and access to medical treatments - Commodities due to recent technologies such as electricity and heating (Among other things....) Does it mean we live in La la land? No, like I said I believe people from the future will see our time as the end of the Middle Ages. I live in China, I've lived in India and Cambodia for several years before, so I am also well aware of the fact that not everyone on Earth enjoys our Western commodities as much as we do. And even in the West so many things can be improved! But yes, I am grateful that I was born in 1976 and not at any earlier point in history. And yes, I wish I'd been born in 2016 instead. The later the better as far as I'm concerned. . I'll add to that that psychology has now evidenced the fact that people's judgement is blinded by many cognitive biases. One that is yet not well explained, but that seems to have been existing since the dawn of civilization (based on existing literature from ancient times) leads people to believe almost systematically that things were better before, that things are going from bad to worse and that things will be worse in the future than they have. This is why most people will tell you that the world was better when they were young than it is today, and that the future ahead is dark. And of course, like you just have, they will use another cognitive bias (the so-called "confirmation bias") to pinpoint any evidence of this, while ignoring any evidence of the opposite. Basically, if you believe that things are going from bad to w orse, it's most likely just your brain tricking you into believing it. .
