POLL: Prince’s 25 Greatest Warner Bros. Songs (1978-1996)

Ask any casual or hardcore Prince fan which songs are his best, and the answer will probably be “That’s impossible. He’s got too many great songs.” So, we’re giving you an opportunity to vote on your favorite Prince songs from the Warner Bros. Years. and I’ll select the Top 25 based on the number of votes.

We’re only focusing on Prince’s official catalog. That means no bootleg fan favorites (“Purple Music,” “Adonis and Bathsheba,” “Rebirth of the Flesh”), protégé songs (“777-9311,” “Nasty Girl,” “The Glamorous Life”), or side projects (“Sugar Walls,” “Manic Monday,” “Nothing Compares 2 U”).

Having said that, leave a vote next to your choices with this criterion in mind:

★★★★★ (Classic)
★★★★ (Great)
★★★ (Good)
★★ (Average)
★ (Poor)

Why not just post on here? Also, I don't see any songs on the list from "The Vault: OFFS?" That's certainly an official WB release. How about Girl 6 soundtrack?

Since there are several Prince-related Facebook groups who wanted to participate (and many of them don't have an Org account), I figured creating a survey would be the best option.

Good for anyone who can do it--I started, but then just decided my numbers were too arbitrary and that there was no way they would be anywhere near the same if I did it again tomorrow--so I decided to just quit. Let people who can actually make up their minds do the thing.

I couldn't do it. it's hard to make votes with only 5 options. I feel like it's unfair for some songs. Also i got confused and didn't know what song was rating since the stars are far from titles. lol

Lovejunky

now

Having been immersed in Princes music Fully ,I Pretty much know all the words to all

of the sings listed...

and well

apart from a handfull

to ME they are ALL Classic in some way or another...

Either the Guitar solos rip my gut to shreds

his falsetto pulls on strings that make me cry

odd arrangements and layers and layers of unexpected but oh so perfectly placed Sounds, roosters, cars, clocks, etc some of which you can only hear through speakers continue to emerge the more I listen

Harmonies that are My Idea of how the denizens in heaven, sing...

or the "Such a big idea in so few words "

that is often overlooked,

Princes Lyrics have content

he didnt just talk about Hos and Guns and arses

Like

I wish U heaven ~

Rock Hard in a FUnky Place~

In the beginning God made the sea
But on the seventh day he made me~

The only love there is ,is the Love we Make ~

on and on it goes

It's like having a hundred million little heart attacks

Princes music thrills me, almost all of it takes me to places I love to go...

depending on my mood...

Thanks for your effort..Great idea..if I had to do this poll 2 years ago,

it would have been easier

i dont understand the point of it. I voted 25 best songs, they all have 5 stars of course (what's the meaning of that rating?)
I click next and come to a page like:
excellent 1 2 3 4 5
good 1 2 3 4 5
bad 1 2 3 4 5

HUH?? what to do there???

And then i click next and it says i can only vote once from my ip. Guaranteed that no-one else voted from my ip.

My understanding was that you were supposed to rate every song, and then they would take those totals (from everyone) to determine the top 25--so, what probably happened was it took your 25 5-star songs as your completed survey. I'm not sure what exactly the page you describe would have been, since I stopped before actually entering my ratings. But your 25 fives probably counted as your vote.

Or maybe not. I'm just guessing.

I couldn't do it. By the time i reached She's Always In My Hair, i had already reached 25. And there were still songs that i wanted to choose. Also, i didn't rate every song on the list. I just picked 25, and rated those ones. Anyway, i didn't click on Finish Survey, so I'll think about it for a day, and revisit it.
Rest in Peace Bettie Boo. See u soon.

I wasn't aware that my poll would cause this much confusion for some of you. Please vote for your favorites and then I'll choose the Top 25 based on the number of votes. I hope this helps!

No worries. As for me, i was just too lazy and pressed for time to rate them all. Thats why i decided to wait and do it later today. I like polls like that one.

Done, just to say, I placed 5 star ratings quite liberally (Especially with SOTT, Gold Experience, 1999 and Parade). Also handed out 1 stars and wanted to do 0 for Lemon Crush and Arrogance/The Flow.

.

Did I do this wrong, I like voted for every song and at least 70 got 5 stars.

Correct?

I believe you're getting hung up on the number 25 so here are the rules again:

  1. Vote for your favorite songs based on the "star criteria" above (you're not limited to how many songs you vote for)
  2. I'll find out which songs got the most votes and write a brief paragraph for each.
  3. I'll post the results later this week.

If that explanation doesn't help, submit your votes as is and I'll work with whatever you give me.

it's crystal-clear now without mentioning the 25 (sure you edited the text in the first message). Anyway i voted already (25) so i wont/cant vote again
