^You've been busy OldFriends! I can definitely see all the connections between all the styles you've mentioned, in particular the Amadeus costumes... It is very understandable why Prince would have originally been inspired by that film, which was after all about one of the greatest musician of all time! Life Matters

Someone in his band at the time and I believe Sheila E talked about Prince & Amadeus and how that film really blew Prince away. I'll try to find something on it.

whether strategic or not, all these little beings in the dressing room or bedroom look like they are communicating with the Kid

those eyes!!!!!! great example of how mardi gras tradition is heavily influenced in his work.
i wonder how his mother decorated the home. my mom was into italiante furniture. lots of statue style lamps and marble cherubs and paintings of that sort. funny thing about the Lovesexy cover i never thought it was sexy or flattering cause i think it reminded me of those naked cherbs statues in my childhood home and i was like why would he want to resemble a fat little baby. remember those crazy dripping oil lamps with the goddess in the center that as a kid you always wanted to touch. it is amazing how the things we grow up seeing really become a part of our fiber. I think the nods to his New Orleans roots are huge and serve as the formative heart place from which he saw other connections.

I'm really considering all the naked Italian art that I grew up with in my house There was a ton, I guess that is why my mom didnt even freak at that Lovesexy Cover. Hmmmm so so very interesting. I'll try to post a pic of those Cherubs, I have them now in my house!! And what I called the "man lamp" When I was a kid.

Oh you nailed that oil lamp image! My neighbors had one with fake vines twined around. I LOVED it, when I was a kid I wanted it so bad. "if you can't clap on the one, then don't clap at all"
