The Gold Experience Orignal Configuration Does anyone have the list for the orignal configuration for the TGE? I heard Acknowledge Me and Days of Wild were supposed to be on it.
Was Love Sign ever intended for TGE?
Thanks | |

Cool to know that there's a longer version of "Interactive". Hope we hear that some day.

Personally, i would go with the following
1. Endorphinmachine (the Dawn version, without the cowbells) 2. Days of Wild 3. Dolphin 4. 319 5. The Most Beautiful Girl in the World 6. Chaos and Disorder 7. Interactive 8. Shy 9. Eye Hate You 10. Gold
I think that would be a spectacular record. Plenty of raw and heavy rock, some funky stuff, good ballads, the whole mix.
I know "Zanalee" wasn't intended for this project but such a cool blues rocker would fit in there as well.

This March 1994 configuration is the one I like best.I love the songs "Days Of Wild" and "Ripopgodazippa" and I was mad when Prince removed those songs from the final tracklist

Agree on Days Of Wild - I was so disappointed when it was left off the album after loving it on The Beautiful Experience

yeah,I hate that he removed "Days Of Wild" from the album! I think that's one of his most convincing hip-hop tracks.

"Hide The Bone" would have been a perfect opening track! much much better than "P Control"

It never had the effect it had live. I think he tinkered with overdubs on it many times & finally just released that single at Xenophobia as the official version in 02. I personally like the Beautiful Experience version with the guitar track overdubbed on a live version.

I'm a little confused by your reply. If u have CB then u have the longer version of Interactive. A COMPREHENSIVE PRINCE DISCOGRAPHY (work in progress ^^): https://sites.google.com/...scography/

P Control really is one of the strongest, most original songs of that era. I think it's highly misunderstood because it's too weird, but Prince recognized its strengh to the point that he gave-up on the Interactive opener, which fit the whole TGE concept, to make P Control the new opener. Wow, that would probably have been my favourtite Prince album. Very glad he put those songs on Crystal Ball. We're here, might as well get into it.

I agree that it was a strong album and that getting rid of Ripop and DOW (as well as Acknowledge Me and Interactive) was heartbreaking. It's actually easy to reconstruct that original configuration given that we have all the tracks: I have and it flows well. I'd have a hard time deciding which is best, though. That original config was more RéB while there's more "power rock" in the final one. The whole of the material was so strong that it's hard to decide what to sacrifice: Endorphinmachine, Dolphin, P Control and Shhh were very strong cuts as well. It would also have made sense to have Love Sign on it, and Hide The Bone is an incredibly funky number. On the other hand I guess most Prince albums could have been double CD's if you added the strongest outtakes to the set. The only painful thing there is that we knew all the tracks before the album's release, so we all had our wishlist of favorite tracks. It was released on CB first. DOW suffered the exact same fate as Xenophobia (the track), actually: Prince felt that the original studio version lacked energy and felt dramatically bland by comparison to what he'd done to the track on stage, so he finally decided to release a live version of it instead. Multiple versions of the track were made available thru one channel or another thru the years: - The original studio cut on the 1994 studio promo tape - The original live performance on the 1994 live promo tape, and a remix of it on the TBE promo film - The 1995 rerecording (actually a new studio cut rather than a live performance) on the L4OA promo film, and that one is really funky, it would have worked on the album IMHO - The 1996 live performance on CB - 3 different mixes/edits of the 2002 version on the 2 DOW singles - The Days Of Wild & loose reherasal version, in 2012 or 2013 (I'd have to check) I may be forgetting one or 2 others? In terms of bootlegs, the 1994 Stars & Bars Monte Carlo/Monaco rendition was remarkable. I wish a soundboard of this would exist A COMPREHENSIVE PRINCE DISCOGRAPHY (work in progress ^^): https://sites.google.com/...scography/

In the first link you shared under the album configurations it says there was a shorter version and long version of "Interactive" [Edited 9/24/17 22:36pm]

Good job, thx for the correction! According to Pvault the video is not from that show, it's a proper music video, but indeed lip-synched on a live recording. I'll correct the discog site entry immediately! A COMPREHENSIVE PRINCE DISCOGRAPHY (work in progress ^^): https://sites.google.com/...scography/

Yeah the video was from a proper video shoot that took place in early October, I think the 7th. They shot Days of Wild, Gold and Rock n Roll is Alive

The short version is 2:53, including the NPG Operator segues. The long version is 3:01, without any such segues. Both have been released, the first on the Interactive CD-Rom, the second on Crystal Ball. . No other studio version is known to exist (though the one in the Beautiful Experience film is a slightly different mix, with live crowd overdubs, of the short version). . I've always suspected, however, that the long version included on that May 1994 configuration of TGE was the long version WITH the NPG Operator segues, as it wouldn't have made much sense to remove the segues entirely in that specific context. But no such version has been documented to exist, which may mean that I'm totally wrong OR that only the tracklist is known (i.e. neither elite collectors nor the Uptown team are in possession of any recording of it, therefore they couldn't tell). Personally, if ´Days of Wild´, ´The Ride´ and ´Interactive´(full versions) replaced ´We march´(love political songs, but didnt like the production on that one), ´Shy´ and ´319´, it would have been perfect for me.

I was confused by this move too. Especially after viewing the Beautiful Experience at Glam Slam so many years ago. Pussy Control is good(better as a B-side IMO), but kicking off TGE with "Interactive" and "Days of Wild"...damn that was brilliant!
